Sprint charged 150 bucks after 2yrs and two months to turn off their several holes in area coverage "service"; including only roaming connect from my work location. Pin Drop? Who cares! Beware the back end with Sprint PCS.

If they were that bad for you why did you have them for two years and two months? Why didn't you just cancel after the contract term ended so you wouldn't have to be charged the cancellation fee?

Yeah, you have nobody but yourself to blame for the cancellation charge if you just renewed a couple months ago. You've had them well long enough to know what their service does for you. NEVER re-up a contract if you have any doubts about the service.

Huh? Tell me if I'm wrong. I had assumed from my previous experiences with two other companies (Cyngular and nTelos) that after the one-year or two-year commitment, you will be billed on a monthly basis unless you want to sign up for another one-year or two-year plan again. Is this not the case with Sprint?

I think his complaint is that he didn't resign a contract and that his current contract had expired. Does Sprint have auto-renewing contracts or do they bill you month to month after your contract expires?

The big complaint is Sprint does auto renew your contract. If you miss the annual renewal window then you are in a brand new one year contract. They are not like Cingular or others where you go month-to-month after your initial contract is over.

they bill you month to month after your contract expires. sprint does not auto renew. I see a lot of people everyday that come in that are going month to month after their contract expired. this happens a lot with people who are deciding whether to take advantage of the rebates on phones for existing customers since by doing so it renews your contract and many of these folks are month to month so it is a decision for them to go back into a contract.

I don't mean to disagree, but I just helped a friend who was trapped in an auto renew contract. He was one month off and they had auto renewed. He had a 1 year contract and was 1 year and 1 month into the service. I had him on a three way call and spent three hours with Sprint CS to get this resolved. In the end they started offering him things to not cancel his contract, but the first hurdle was to drop the $150 they were trying to charge him. This was 3 weeks ago. Also, I have seen that complaint on this board and howardforums.com. |

I have 3 phones on my account and Sprint has never "auto renewed" any of my contracts. That's obviously mis-information being spread around.

Larry - Chris was the kid who lived downstairs from me, I turned him on to this site but he never actually became a member. He was 22 years old and he was heavily into cellular technology. He was also like a little brother to me. He had been depressed lately and on Wednesday he commited suicide. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Sprint PCS does not have auto-renewing contracts. As far as I am aware of only SunCom (Triton PCS) has self renewing contracts.

Hmmm, Let's see. When I returned from living in Central America 2 1/2 years ago - phone contracts at the time were for 2 years. And - I was told, if I turned off the service BEFORE two years was up, I'd have to buy the phone. Seemed a bit much but no one else was offering any better and the Pin Drop thing was a big deal then, to me at least. Now, 2 months AFTER my two years up contract, they charged me 150 buck to turn of their service, no mention of my buying phone after two years completed contract. Some how boys'n girls I feel Sprint cheated me. But no worries. Sprint PCS will never get the opportunity to do it again. I take my $150.00 lessons seriously. |

If you are so sure your contract was expired, then why dont you argue it? Like many posters said before, sprint DOES NOT auto renew. Only thing i could think of is you took advantage of some new promotion or plan change and the rep forgot to tell you that the promotion requires a contract renewal.

I began my Sprint contract on Feb 25, '02 and I know Sprint bills its customers one month ahead of time. My first question: If I were to cancel my contract (it's a one-year PCS Advantage agreement), will I have to call customer care on Jan 25, '03 to cancel? My second question: If I decide to stay with Sprint, I must have another number with a different area code assigned to my phone (recently moved). Must I wait until my contract ends in order to switch numbers (and thereby renew), or can I do this right now while I am in my first contract? Will the switch in numbers affect performance? (I don't know too much on things like PRLs and such.) I have had very good service so far in Sprint's coverage areas in South Texas with very few dropped calls. Thanks, JR |

You can change your phone number at any time regardless of contract dates. They are independant of each other. If you dont plan on changing your plan, then DONT renew your contract. That is not necessary. People only renew to take advantage of special offers. Your plan just continues at the same price you have always paid. And you go month to month with no obligation to stay with sprint. If you do want to leave sprint...you can call at anytime and tell them the date you want them to set your account to expire. Very simple

now let me ask you about this beign charged $150 after two years.. when you left the contry did you ask to be put on some type of Vacation plan??? because you may have had a new agreement put on when they switched you to that plan... Email me your Sprint pcs account number and I will look it up in the system when I go back to work monday, and see what went on. If you want to verify I work there first I will send you an email with my login ID and you can call and verify I work there. | |

I actually called CS and yes, they told me I'd have to renew the contract I have. I don't see why, if this area code 361 I'm requesting is within the San Antonio MTA (I currently have a number with a 210 area code). But that's not the problem anymore. I said no thanks, I'd wait instead. My new concern is the renewal of my contract in a few months. I have the 3000 minutes (200/2800) per month for $29.99 free and clear plan with nationwide LD. This plan has worked for me, but I'm wondering if there's a sweeter deal out there right now, or currently in the works. I don't want to lose my nationwide LD for some of those "regional" plans.
