This is my first post on wirelessadvisor.com. I've decided that I really do need a cellphone (I had one when I was 16; I'm 20 now. I don't really like phones, but it's a necessary evil). At any rate, I've never really been impressed with wireless phone services - it always seems like calls are dropped, missed, broken up, whatever. I'm having a hard time getting a consensus from anyone (other than that Sprint PCS is apparently a no-no) I've narrowed it down to either Nextel or Verizon. I have 3 friends with Nextel, and I never hear any complaints. My girlfriend has Verizon, and a *very* cheap audiovox phone, but she gets reception everywhere - mountains, parking garages, you name it. I guess I'm looking for something not too fancy (I really dig those Samsung flip phones - I think it was the A460. I've been looking at motorala phones, too - my first cell phone was one of those really big early 90's motorola phones, and it always worked without a hitch.) I also don't need 10,000 minutes - my phone conversations are usually a 30 second series of "mm-hmm"s. My main concern is reliability - I want to get a consistently clear connection (who doesn't ) Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance! XXL |

Verizon is a decent carrier in Maryland, my family has it and never seem to really have any problems with it. I used to have Verizon until my recent switch to Sprint, I had some problems once and awhile but I think it was mostly with my phone. I believe Verizon is offering a sweet deal on that Motorla phone they have with like $100 mail in rebate or something. If I were you then I would probably go with that deal.

Thanks for the advice. I actually decided that I'm going to go with Nextel (providing there's no hidden landmines in the contract.) Nextel is the only carrier in my area that none of my friends complain about. It seems like all Annapolis Nextel owners get good service. Thanks for the advice, though - I may consider it in Nextel lets me down XXL |
