I am sure this topic was covered before but I did a search and did not see it: I have heard conflicting information on whether or not a call from one T-Mobile customer (*not* on a family plan) to another (on the network) is charged. It looks like from looking at the website that this is not true, but I have heard that it is. What I would like to do is have separate plans for family members in Houston and Dallas. Currently we have 2 phones in each city, but the family plan bill comes to me. Questions: Can any t-mobile user call another t-mobile user for free? (If the above is no) Can a t-mobile user on a family plan, call a t-mobile user *not* on their family plan for free? Great board! Lots of good info! |

If your plan (or whoevers plan that is calling that other T-Mobile person) is on the family plan, then calls placed to ANY T-Mobile phone are free. All T-Mobile to T-Mobile (under the family shared plan), but one of you has to be on the family shared plan, to the best of my knowledge. | |

The issue of billing deals with two things. First, if you initiate the call, you have to be on ther T-Mobile network to have the call rate m-2-m. If you are roaming (for example on Cingular in the carolinas) it is considered ANYTIME minutes no matter who you call. Of course those are free too, but limited to 800 shared per month. If you receive the call, you also have to be on the T-Mobile network. Assuming you are on the T-Mobile network, if you are a family plan subscriber, calls to ANY T-Mobile subscriber (not just the ones on your plan) are m-2-m and unlimited for you. It doesn't matter (with regard to your bill) what plan the other person is on. The person you call gets billed according to their plan. If they are on the family plan, your call to them is billed m-2-m for them too as long as they are on the T-M network. If they are on the 39.99 Get More 600 minute plan, they get billed anytime minutes when you call them. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick replies. That answers my question. It seems like the cheapest option is to stay with one plan rather then splitting into two family plans. |

To the person who started this thread - If you do not have the family (share) plan you cannot use mobile to mobile; that said, this plan does not offer Unlimited Nights. If you have the family plan, anyone you call on the T-Mobile network is free to you; not necessarily free to them; dependent upon what plan they have and what time of day or day it is. The $39.99 Get More plan offers 600 minutes, UN & UW, but no mobile to mobile. I took a long look at this, but opted to stay with the Family Plan, because I have 4 lines on it, and we use the hell out of mobile to mobile with 3 teens in the house. My kids were in NY state recently, and I kid you not, I racked up a solid 2000 minutes mobile to mobile... free! You have to look at how you're using your phones! |
