I have a current situation going on with ALLTEL. I used to have three accounts with them, and recently transferred one of them over to my fiancees name, so she could build her credit, etc. When we did this, she decided she wanted a new phone, so they sold her one, and extended the current contract 12 months (which made her new term 14 months). About 2 weeks ago, her purse was stolen at work, with the phone in it. The next day, it was found in the parking lot by security, and the phone was completely jacked up (someone aparently threw it in water). The unfortunate side to this is, that she did not have equipment insurance, and ALLTEL is telling her that she can get a new phone, at retail, for $200.00, which is absurd. A friend of mine had a situation similar to this a few years back, with ALLTEL, and he called CS, and explained that he could not afford a new phone, or to terminate his contract, so they offered him some 9.99 a month plan, with no airtime, which was fine, since he had no phone. Well, we emailed ALLTEL, and they tell us that this plan is only available if you are out of contract, of under special circumstances (like I would think this might be, to some degree). Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to lay down $100 for a phone, then a month down the road have it damaged. I myself, have never once had insurance on my phone, because I am so paranoid, that I make sure that I know where my phone is 24/7. Does anyone have ANY ideas what we might do? We would like to keep the contract active, and make good on the terms we agreed to, IF they would budge and let us pay the 9.99 for a few months, then perhaps later down the road, get a phone and go back to a plan. It's aparent they dont want to strive to keep a customer, albeit a "new" one, but one that was transferred over by another customer who still have two active, in good standing accounts with them. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

Get a CDMA phone cheap off ebay. Who cares if it's old and not the prettiest thing... it would make more sense to me to go this route. Also check with people you know to see if they have old phones they aren't using anymore (Verizon or Alltel). What did you do with your old phone before you bought the new one? Good luck. |

I recently switched to Alltel and only paid $20 for the Nokia 5185i it's pretty old but can download ringtones to it it's pretty trusty. If you can't do that try the Circuit City in your area. They usually have CDMA phones from Sprint on sale less than $100 sometimes around $50. Hope this helps. chelle |

The regional manager or whoever you talked to is full of crap! I do not deal with retail and concidering you have 3 accounts with them, I do not suggest that you deal w/ retail either. Ask to speak with an outside/business sales representative....tell them your problem. I am sure that something can be worked out. As for not activating other phones, that is bullcrap too. My rep told me that they can activate any phone that can be flashed with the PRL list. So, if you have a Nokia, Motorola, Audiovox, etc....it should be fine. Just find a phone to activate. Surely you know someone that has an old phone that the contract has expired on and they deactivated.....if you continue to have problems, e-mail me. I have an old phone that I would sell you for a reasonable rate. If I were you, I would raise h*ll until I got someone to listen to me. Don't be rude but be firm. If you need help, just let me know....;-) longsouthern17@aol.com Good luck, Brad |

Well, I have never heard of the account you are talking about....It may exist though....if nothing else, drop down to the 19.99 a month plan until you can save for the phone....like I said, I have one that would prob. work for ya if it comes down to that. Good luck man, Brad |

The 9.95 plan is indeed only for customers out of contract with perfect pay historys who have had long standing accounts and use nearly zero airtime. It is not offered to new customers or customers under contract so probably won't be able to get that. You can drop to the lowest rate plan offered which is usually 19.95 per month. You can also purchase a Simple Freedom phone from Wal-Mart (Powered by ALLTEL). It usually runs around $70. It will work on an ALLTEL post paid account regardless of what the box says. You can also try pawn shops, flea markets, garage sales, etc. if you're looking for an even lower price. Just make sure its an ALLTEL phone. Some Verizon phones will work as long as they haven't put a unique security code on a phone where it can't be found. Sprint PCS phones generally do not work. There are some exceptions. |
