I recently got a v60i on a total freedom 200 plan from alltel in NC. How does billing for text messaging and web work?

Not sure about Alltel's Web, but I believe you need to buy a text messaging package to use SMS on Alltel.

They don't list SMS messages as a feature of any of their basic plans. I was able to send my sister (on alltel) a message from my VZW phone once, but it doesn't work anymore...

If I recall correctly, web-unwired is $5.95 extra per month by itself. Text messaging is either $5.95 or $6.95 with 300 out going text messages and unlimited incoming. You may be able to upgrade your included feature package by adding $5 to get webthough, and then add the text messaging.

I am curious as to why your SMS doesn't send from Verizon to Alltel. I have friends with AT&T, Cingular, and Cricket. They can all send messages to my Alltel phone. Hmmm...Weird.

Alltel has an SMS feature called Speechless for $6.95 and includes 300 text messages. Their web service, Web-Unwired, costs $5.95 and uses your package minutes while you are logged in. However, Alltel does not currently support inter-carrier messaging.

Since you are on the Total Freedom plan, you can purchase an upgrade package for $3.00 and includes Web-Unwired and Enhanced Digital Advisor. Enhanced Digital Advisor allows you to send text messages from Alltel's web site at message.alltel.com. Hope this helps.

ALLTEL has supported inter-carrier messaging for awhile now (to respond to prior post)... Speechless Text Messaging Service is $6.95 per month with 300 outgoing messages with a 10¢ / message overage rate with unlimited incoming messages. Web-Unwired is $5.95 a month using packaged minutes. Web Unwired is available on one of our feature packages which on your Total Freedom plan you can upgrade to for $3.00 a month (Package 4) and then add the text messaging. (Based on S.Carolina pricing)
