Default Donating Cell Phones

Does anyone know a nationally recognized charity that accepts cell phone donations? I know Sprint takes cell phones. They have not told me what charities they will be used for, so I have not given them the phones. TIA

www.donateaphone.com (or .org?) Anyway, it's run by the industry and takes all donated phones, reprograms them for emergency only (911), then gives them to women's shelters. Plus it's a tax write-off. RadioShack used to support this program until the company got lazy.

VZW stores take them too. They fix and donate them to domesticly abused women.

From press release:
The company’s [VZW] exclusive HopeLine program accepts no longer used wireless phones in its 1,300-plus Communications Stores nationwide in any condition and from any wireless carrier. The phones are refurbished or recycled in an environmentally safe fashion. The proceeds fund donations to non-profit domestic violence service programs of wireless phones and airtime for emergency use by victims.

Usually your local Salvation Army or Police Deaprtment has special events where you can donate them. It is really a nice things to do because it can be used to call 911 eve though it is not activated. I once had given a friend an oldphone just to keep in there car just in case of an emergency.
