Hi all, I'm trying to decide on a wireless carrier and phone to be used primarily in the Orlando area, but also with coverage for all of Florida, West Georgia and East Alabama. I would like GSM (to work on programming for WAP/WML applications), but it seems like it just isn't here yet from a coverage standpoint. I also have corporate discounts from AT&T (15%) and SprintPCS (25%), but I'm more concerned with good coverage/calling plan than using one of those carriers. As I make about $40 worth of land-line long distance calls per month, I would like to use the wireless for that instead. My experience with wireless service is limited to Nextel, which I had for work about 4 years ago. I really liked the two-way functionality, but at the time there were a lot of "dead" areas. That probably has changed. Any input is greatly appreciated! CD |

You should seriously consider Sprint PCS. Not only would you get a 25% discount with them through your company but they just introduced some new rate plans and from what I hear they actually have good coverage in Florida. Sprint PCS Sprint PCS Plans |

you should be good with sprintpcs in florida. not sure about the other areas you mentioned perhaps others can shed some light. if you do go with sprint pick out either a sanyo model, audiovox, hitachi, or kyocera (other than the kyocera 2255) and you should have a fine perfomer on the sprintpcs network. avoid LG and samsungs. |

Cingular Wireless has coverage throughout the state of florida... no roaming what so ever. As for GA, and AL, Cingular is great out there too.

Verizon is very good in Florida, but since you get a discount on SPCS, I say go with them. They have good plans right now and great FL coverage.

While Sprint has decent coverage along the FL peninsula, if you are going to drive to W. GA or E. AL from there, you will find some lengthy dead spots along I-75 North of Lake City and between Valdosta and Cordele...additionally, if you take the back routes, you are virtually guaranteed of dead spots. For that reason, AT&T may be a better option...just get the Siemens phone if you want GSM service...there is continuous TDMA coverage all through N. FL and South GA on US Cellular and Cingular. |

If you want GSM, teh only choice is AT&T or T-Mobile. Sprint is CDMA and Cingular is currently TDMA.
