I'm thinking about purchasing the MetroPCS package in Miami, Fl. I believe you purchase a phone and for $35/mth, you receive unlimited airtime. I know it is restricted to Miami and surrounding regions. I'd like to hear from present MetroPCS customers and/or experienced cell phone users...what are the phones like, coverage, long distance plans?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

here in atlanta they are fine so long as you dont venture outside the limited coverage area. you can do credit card roaming if you enable it on your phone, but you can only make outgoing calls this way.

i used to have at&t wireless and the coverage where metro exsists is either there or not. inside most homes on the northside here in s. springs it is hit or miss. it gets worse over in cobb doesn't even make it into the mcceachern area at all.

you cant beat the 35 a month all you can talk, though. and they will activate regardless of credit history. i have the kyocera phone and it works well. sound quality is good as would be on any cdma network. the only thing that sucks is that the sms service only works with other metro pcs phones, not worth a damn cause you cant sms someone on another service.

but it beats prepaid for local calling.

I was hoping to see that Metro Atlanta coverage was better that posted. I think maybe the T-mobile get more SE 3000 or ATT GSM may be a better deal for those that have decent credit and keep the phone away for their teenagers.

I can't speak for Miami, but the big problem with Metro PCS in the Atlanta area is the coverage AREA (many exurbs not covered), not the coverage QUALITY.

...and if exurban coverage is really a problem, T-Mobile is a somewhat better choice than AT&T GSM (the latter's $99 unlimited plan does not include TDMA roaming on Cingular, and T-Mobile has coverage in a number of exurbs, such as Griffin, where [AFAIK] AT&T doesn't yet have coverage.)

Wait for another unlimited company - METRO sucks and their one phone they offer as well. Poor sound, tons of missed calls... better than a pager, but it's hit and miss. Their kyocera cheap plastic phone will cost you about $160.00... JUNK!

Be prepaired to pay extra for Metro to send you a paper bill. And forget about calling a LIVE person about any question you have... no such animal

Good luck

Also, I've heard people complain that callers only get about 10 seconds to record a voice mail message. This would make sense if voice mail were free, but you actually have to pay extra for it. I don't know if this is still true, but it would be a good question to ask.

Working for Sprint, I know a fair amount about Metro as they confuse Sprint PCS with Metro PCS and it was a good concept when it debuted in the area, but especially in the Miami area you'll encounter lots of disconnections and dropped calls because they have oversold their capacity. More Metro users than their system can provide for will make you feel happy that when signing up there is no annual agreement. If you can deactivate the service and return it under a particular trial period, then give it a shot, but for 35 a month for unlimited you're not looking at that bad of a deal if you can restrict yourself to local calling!
