Just curious, I drove from Kingsport, TN down to Atlanta via Knoxville and Chattanooga today and looked at the SIDs and NIDs as I went.(at least I think that's what they are.) In the Tri-Cities, the SID/NID was S04694 / N00170 ; somewhere between Kingsport and Knoxville, the NID changes to N00001 while the SID stays the same S04694. It stays like this until you go past Chattanooga and into Georgia a little and then the SID/NID becomes S04274 / N00000. Then as you get closer to Atlanta, the NID changes to N00001 while the SID stays the same S04274. I then drove home from Atlanta to Hendersonville, NC via Greenville, SC(and Spartanburg too, didn't feel like driving through all those red lights in Greenville on US25 for people who know the area.) I noticed that the SID/NID changes over to S04376 somewhere close to South Carolina and the NID stays the same at N00000 and it's the same in Hendersonville, NC as well. Now if I only knew what all of these SIDs and NIDs meant(if that's what they are). It does seem that the SID doesn't change as much as the NID does. Anyway I did this on my Samsung 3500 with PRL 15 if that makes any difference. Hey what can I say, I was curious! nightrain5 |

Carriers use the SID to identify a given "market"... some carriers include more area in a SID than others do... Verizon & Sprint both include nearly all of East TN under one SID.. Verizon being SID 0093, Sprint being 4694. I know Verizon's SID changes going west on I-40 somewhere around Crossville.... Sprint's is most likely the same... I have no explanation for what the NID might be.. :-\
