ok, i am just off my contract with alltel (had their RIPOFF carolina freedom 60-minute plan for 19.99 a month). i'm shopping around for new service and a GREAT deal. here's what i want: - a monthly nationwide service plan at about (or less than) 29.99/mo. - a free phone - no activation fee - included features such as voice mail, call id and paging - the "most minutes for the money" (something *at least* in the area of 300 anytime mins plus 1000 night/weekend) - reliable, reputable service i don't know if any of the companies offer ALL of these things, but i am interested to know about ones that offer SEVERAL of them. i know there is a lot of competition in the wireless industry, so i should be able to use that to my advantage to get exactly what i want, right? some additional information: most of my calls will be originating from nc, but i DO want the ability to call anywhere in the US (or MOST anywhere) with no additional charges. thanks SO much for your help in making me an educated consumer! |

That's a tall order. Do you really need a national plan if your calls will be originating in NC for the most part? Sounds like a regional plan would be better for you. It will still include nationwide long distance, as long as your call originates from the home area. You really only need a national plan if you travel. I live in the RTP area, and I have AT&T. No problems with the service so far. My plan is the regional advantage at the $49.99 price. I get a total of 700 anytime minutes, unlimited N/W, free long distance, voice mail, caller id, call waiting, etc. I pay no roaming charges in NC, SC, GA, VA, FL, and the eastern half of TN. They do have a similar plan at the $39.99 price with about 350 anytime minutes, and 3000 n/w weekends. Can't speak on the packages, because I picked the phone I wanted, then worried about the plan. No packages with the 6360 at this time. |

I live in Greensboro and have the America's Choice Plan from Verizon. I have been up and down the east coast and have remained either in the network, or the extended network (both are home area) most of the time. My plan is 400 peak and unlimited N/W mintes for $45 per month. I think they have a 300 minute plan for $35 or $39. You should get voice mail and SMS messaging included. I was switching over from Alltel, so they waived the activation fee. Good Luck Scott |

Hello, I am not sure if Sun Com is available in NC or not, but I have their Unplan service here in SC. This is an ALL UNLIMITEDservice with free long distance to anywhere in the US. The only thing is I have a 5 county area, but when I am outside of my area they still include 300 anytime minutes, anything over is 0.20 cents per minute. |

SunCom (Triton PCS) does cover some parts of NC, however I believe the Triad area is covered by AT&T Wireless.

SunCom (Triton PCS) actually has a decent amount of coverage in NC they cover the east part and a good portion of the coast. It's the middle part of the state that they don't serve where AT&T takes over. SunCom Network Coverage Map |

yes, that's what I meant about not being available in RTP. You can't purchase service through them here, but your coverage would be the same as the ATT network.

Cingular has a great home plan which covers all of NC, SC, plus Eastern TN and Coastal GA. Nationwide long distance is included. From the coverage map Cingular appears to have really good coverage in the triad area. For $29.99 you get 325 anytime plus 1000 n+w. The best deal is at $39.99 with 500 anytime and 3000 n+w because your 500 anytimes rollover for 12 months. You can get a Nokia 3390 for $20 at Cingular stores, or if there is a wal-mart with a Connection Center nearby they offer them for $.01 and they have special $27.86 and $37.86 pricing on those two plans.
