I am planning on going to England and France this summer, and am trying to get ready. I need some informaiton about how i can use a cell phone over there. I know I cant use my Sprinticon phone, but what about my Tmobileicon one? It is prepaid, so could i just buy a prepaid card over there or what? I was also thinking about just buying a prepaid phone over there, but I would rather have one with me then have to try to go find one. also, does anyone have a list of carriers that work in both france and england, and their websites. the only one i can think of is vodaphone, but idk if it works in england and france.

Tmobileicon uses 1900Mhz. That phone won't work in Europe. From what I've read you should get a prepaid phone from there.

Try the pre paid first. This was a while ago but i remember Verizonicon customers can roaming internationally buy having Verizonicon send them a sim chip. That sim is programmed with their number. it can only work internationally i will try to post the link up here if i can find it again.

Your profile lists the Samsung E105. That phone will work in Europe without any problems since it has the GSM 900/band in addition to the US 1900 band that you use with T-Mobileicon. Make sure that the phone is unlocked to allow foreign SIM cards to be used with your phone.

You can check out other options here (keep in mind that your E105 is limited to the GSM 900 band so you'll have to use O2 UK or Vodafone UK which are a tad more expensive than the GSM 1800-only providers - Orange, Virgin Mobile and T-Mobileicon UK):

Or consider a cheap GSM phone with a SIM from Virgin Mobile since their rates are quite cheap for calling the US:

    Hope this helps

Make sure to call CS to activate Global Roaming.
Otherwise you'll be like one of the Posters here who complained his ATTWSicon phone did'nt work in Europe.
He thinks he'll just go to Europe and it will automaticall work. It's disabled for customer's protection.

Getting Int'l Roaming provisioned to one's account also tends to vary by provider. Some providers automatically enable it when you sign up for a new account or get a new number. This is the case for European providers, roaming is normally enabled when you get the SIM card.

Is there anyway to call the states from Europe without having to pay 2 euros per minute? I have a cheap Nokia GSM 900/1800 that is unlocked but I found it to be terribly expensive to use. It has a Vodafone prepaid SIM in it. I ended up just buying a prepaid calling card and calling from the hotel room for 5 cents per minute. 2 euros per minute seemed quite high to me.

Not that I know of unless you have people call you since it's free incoming in Europe. Unfortunately using a prepaid SIM to call the States from abroad is quite expensive as you know. I would just go with a prepaid calling card, those tend to be more reasonable if you don't need a cell phone to call anywhere except in the country you're visiting and where you do want to make domestic calls.
