Hey guys, i dont know if DC is Southern or Northeast US... so i'm posting in both places. Basically, i'm moving from philadelphia to DC next week. I have cingular in Philly, and am very very satisfied. i'm tempted to keep cingular in DC, but in the end i want the carrier that has the best coverage and where i will get the strongest signals (in my apt, in the buildings in foggy bottom, and maybe on metro -- in that order). so basically, its coming down to Cingular and Verizon. I hear verizon is a little better, but is it significant? and with Cingular rolling out GSM in DC (hopefully), would it be better to invest in Cingular on the premise that they will get better in the near future? whatever phone i get, i want to keep it for the next 3 years, since its my primary phone -- i dont want to flip flop phone numbers. What do you guys recommend (feel free to go outside the scope of Cingular and Verizon)? (NOTE: I will be traveling occassionally into VA, MD -- and more frequently to PA, NJ, and NYC) |

I have lived in Fairfax County Virginia (right outside of DC) since Jan. 2001 and I've had Sprint the whole time and been very happy. The coverage may not be as good in the boonies but in areas where most people spend most of their time it's great. And as long as you stay on Sprint's network you will never be roaming. From what I've observed Sprint and Verizon seem to be the most popular carriers 'round these parts. You should consider where you will be traveling, (whether it's off the beathen path or not) and don't get a single-band phone just in case you are stuck somewhere and need to roam. Ben |

as far as jurisdiction for this board is concerned, the map that said which states post to which discussion board was vague about DC's location. i consider it northeast personally (although below mason dixon line).

If you enter any DC zipcode in this forum, it lists DC as Southern. As far as service providers go, DC is Verizon (old Bell Atlantic) territory. Yet, just about everything works here depending upon your phone and location. I have Cingular Nation and I live in the DC metro area and have no trouble calling from anywhere here and it was the best deal for this area at the time I subscribed. Since you already have Cingular, give it a try for a while. If it doesn't work ok for you, see what people you work with and live near have. That's a good indication of what's best, but not always.
