Default Q for Stanley Cline: SPCS 800 Mhz digital roaming in Atlanta?

Does SPCS have any 800 MHz (or 1900 for that matter) digital roaming agreements in the Atlanta area? (i.e. any benefit to having a tri-mode phone around here?) The SPCS store staff seem dumb when it comes to the question of roaming.

Anyone have a SPCS PRL decoded, like Justalurker has for VZ?

My SCP-4000 only roams on analog, so I don't think there is any 1900 roaming on Metro PCS, for example.

JKR,
Scroll down on Justa Lurker's page, there is the PRL for Sprint 10014. If not, I have it at:

PRL Page

When I lose signal on my SCP-4000, the phone goes to Cricket (CDMA on PCS), but I don't know if I can make calls through them. It can also roam on AT&T (analog), and when those two options are gone, it can end up on Verizon (analog). An older Qualcomm phone even goes to Qwest (CDMA on PCS).

In Cleveland/Akron, the 4000 roams on Northcoast (CDMA on PCS), or Alltel (analog).

i can't find these other PCS carriers on the PRL, but the phone finds them. So there IS a chance you'll get Metro, but I haven't read in any newsgroup of it happening. Besides, Sprint is good enough in GA that you shouldn't roam.

Yes, SPCS tri-mode phones will roam on Verizon digital in the Atlanta area.

roamer1,
Thanks for the info! I wish you would have been here a couple months back when someone here kept insisting that Sprint tri-modes would not roam digitally on Verizon at any time.

Sorry, SC - one more thing:

Do you know if VZ digital is preferred over analog?

Thanks!

Tom

Tom,
I can tell you the answer is probably no. It will likely prefer the strongest of the two signals which is sometimes analog. At least that's how it works here in LA.

If digital is available, it's preferred.
