I was wondering if anyone could tell me their experiences with cell phone coverage in College Park. I'm moving there in a few weeks and would like to get a new cell asap. I'm thinking about Verizon, so if you have any comments with that service, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. |

Rayt I was just going to same the exact same thing about Sprint. Although now that I think about it the people I know that live in MD tend to use Verizon the most so you are probably right.

I live in greenbelt, MD pretty much right next to college park, I'm a student there. I'm about ta buy myself a A500 to use on sprint's network, I've been with sprint for 2 years, and they're pretty damn good. -Yi Chen |

If you plan to travel out of the area much...I would still recommend VZW. That'll probably be the decision maker..travel or not. Also, take a look at the maps and keep in mind that you will be roaming anywhere off of the SPCS network. People I know who have SPCS are very happy with it within the network...SPCS just doesn't have nearly the coverage VZW has. Just something to think about...

i am going to be a grad student at UMD next year too. i currently have sprint service, and i noticed my phone didnt have coverage within most of the buildings. having coverage everywhere is definitely something i want. was this lack of service with sprint normal, or did i just have bad luck that day? this is the main reason i am thinking of verizon... and based on other's people's comments, it seems like its the way to go. finding a good verizon deal just seems to be the next venture. |

sorry about that blank post. but alot of my friend go to college park so i'm around there on the weekends. i have sprint and have never had problems there. one of my friends had voicestream and it didnt work in his dorm building and another had verizon, but he was using an aold star tec phone, which got better reception than the voicestream phone, but the verizon service worked in certain areas of his dorm room. i used to have a 510 and now got an a500 with sprint and so far have had no troubles down there. so from my experience i would suggest sprint or verizon. you can give both a try since they offer trial periods, so good luck.

Yea, a lot of my friends have like cingular, verizon, or voicestream and their phones don't even get service at all in their dorms. Everytime I call them on their cellies their voicemails pick up cause' their phones aren't getting any reception. But when I chill with them in their dorms, my phone, the A500 with SPRINT PCS is the only phone that get's reception, they always need to borrow mine to make phonecalls. I remember having cingular, tryin' ta make a phone call in the dorms, I had ta stick my head outside of the windows in my friend's dorm to get service. But now that I have SPRINT PCS with my A500, it's all good!!! -Yi Chen |

sorry for another blank post. yeah i too have an a500 with sprint myself, and the reception is by far the best even compared to my verizon v60i. like i live in a wooded area and the sprint service works better there. i can use the phone anywhere in my house and i still get a clear calls. i havent taken the a500 to CP yet, but when i had the 5150, sprints service was awesome. as far as choosing cingular i wouldnt get them if i were around CP. |

I haven't tried my phone on the Maryland campus, but for what it's worth, Cingular has excellent coverage in the Annapolis/Baltimore/D.C. areas. I've done some extensive traveling in the area and never had any problems. ATLguy |
