i live in the new smyrna beach area, north of cocoa beach florida, and i'm starting a business 'rent a nerd' pretty much house call computer service, well anyway, i believe it would be a Great idea to get a cellphone, since the answering machine just wont do the justice. heres what i'm looking for in a plan: -free nights and weekends, -no long distance charges, and -quite a few minutes because i will most likely be getting alot of 5-20 minute calls. at the moment im not that worried about the phone email and instant messageing stuff because i spend most of my time on the computer anyway the phones im interested in are mostly anything by Nokia: specifically -the Nokia 8390 -nokia 6300 series -anybody know when the 6310i will be available?(i really like the 6310i) -nokia 8270 -i would also like to hear some thoughts on the nokia 9290 Communicator -(any suggestions of other phones you guys like would be nice too) <edit, having a phone that i could use to connect a users computer to download drivers(if their internet conection had failed) WOULD be awesome.. until i could get a laptop> -if any of you guys can help me find a good phone and possibly some service, it would be very much appreciated! mbentti@ucnsb.net rbw411 Quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If anyone needs anything phones or accessories in the central fl. area let me know, I will get you them at the best deal I can. Acc. sent to email.... I will try to help you in the right direction. First of all you said that you will be receiving a lot of calls between 5-20 minutes, so I would imagine you would help some customers on the phone. I used to work at Gateway in Orlando, so I know you will be on the phone all the time. My first choice for you would be NEXTEL. They have a plan that includes all of your incoming minutes for free. Some of them look like this: $109.99 For 1000 anytime minutes, all incoming free, no night and weekends ($10.00 extra if you want it), plus you get unlimited 2-way (walkie talkie type use, you probably see it all the time when they hold the button talk then release and the other person talks) You can use that to anyone with a NEXTEL in FL. All your Nation Wide Long Distance is included. The next plan is $139.99 for 1300 anytime and the same as above. As for phones they have some cool ones with color screens and such, and they all have internet access. Check out the i95, its expensive (less than the 9200 Nokia though) but seems to be worth it. It will however come down in price as it just was released. All the other phones you mentioned are GSM. You have 2 choices AT&T or Voicestream. Both are excellent carriers in out area. AT&T is still new to GSM so their coverage will not be as good till around October. You also left out one GSM phone that is the talk of the industry, the t68i by SONY-ERICSSON, I have this phone (not the i) and I love it. Coverage is an issue with this service on AT&T ($199.99)though. Works great when in the cities, but in between is not here yet (OCT). I do not sell Voicestream but they also have this phone ($299.99). I don't like the 8390, looks cheap and fragile. The 9290 is way to big, but looks very nice, a little on the high side ($600.00 and sold 3rd party only (not the carrier)) for where we are in the technology race though. GPRS has a little way to go. Voicestream has a nice regional plan for $49.99 you get 3000 anytime minutes. Coverage is pretty good. I never had a problem (out of the ordinary dead spots that everyone has). AT&T has all kinds of GSM plans so you will have to tell me how many minutes and where you are calling to, and I can get a better idea for them and the rest of the carriers. I will work on the phone price the best I can, I sell Nextel (can't do too much) AT&T (can do a little on GSM, on TDMA have some good deals) Cingular (not really for you) Sprint (maybe, can get some deals) I would get you some accessories for your phone however. I don't sell Voicestream. So break down how many minutes and what phones interest you. I will do the rest. |

Verizon just released some Local Digital Choice Plans they give you quite a number of anytime minutes, long distance, and unlimited nights and weekends. However this is for my area and Verizon's plans vary by area so check their website to see what's avaible for you. Verizon Wireless |

VERIZON = PRIMECO in FL. IMHO one of the worst companies, we used to sell them, can't deal with all the problems people in this area seem to have. Nothing is as bad as World Com though. Honestly though I have not used them in 2 years, so I am sure they have made some progress. I had the Audiovox 3500 the first week it came out, gave it to a friend 2 months later.

Actually, the Nokia 8390 is a good phone, even though you never sad it wasn't. You said it looks cheap and fragile. It is not. It is not cheap at all, in any kind of way. It's not fragile either. It is well built. It gets good reception, and I love it. It is the best phone I have ever had, and I've had some nice phone. You should try it sometimes rbw411. To the original poster- I think your choice is really between Voicestream and Nextel. They both have the coverage that you need, and the rate plans that you need. Voicestream's rate plans are cheaper, but don't include free incoming minutes. Nextel's rate plans are alot more expensive, but do include free incoming minutes, as I stated before. When it comes to phones, Voicestream has them beat. GSM phones are alot more feature-full, and and will always be that way. Nextel will never (sad to say) have phones like GSM phones, since Motorola is their only phone manufacturer. Not trying to give Motorola a bad name, because they do make good phones, but just not the nicest Nextel phones. |

Voicestreams 3000 minutes for 50/60$ a month is a GREAT deal! I'm just worried (for a business it might not be enough). So let's say a normal call might be 10 minutes, well hopefully you will get at leas 9 or so calls a day. That will add up to 3000 minutes (unless it's used sparingly on nites/weekends). . I think these are the best deals: Nextel: 300 anytime minutes, UNLIMITED INCOMING CALLS, unlimited direct connect (maybe to other workers in the future), and long distance is included. I think this is great! 300 minutes is a decent share to call people, and for the business you could chat away with the customer and never worry about going over! While I think Voicestream is a good deal (maybe as a backup or for a personal cell), Nextel would be the best choice with the unlimited incoming calls. Check them out @ www.nextel.com |

Nextel may very well be the best for you if you plan on receiving a lot of calls.

The I80s looks like a nice phone (least its not too ugly or bulky) and you get a discount on it since your plan is at least 54$ or something. You can get the i30sx for 10$ and I think it looks nice, but is bulky. For the price, I'd go with one of those.

I would go with the i90/i95C for a flip phone and the i85 for a candy bar style Also the benefit of the nextel is the free incomming but only 300 outgoing as compaired to 3000. are you sure that you are only going to make 300 minutes of outgoing calls per month. (Consider that for an extra $10 you can get 500 anytime) Jack

I agree with Jack, 300 outgoing minutes a month isn't very much you might want to upgrade to at least the next free incoming call plan. By the way Nextel just came out with a new flip phone the i60c, it looks like a cool phone you might want to consider it also.
