Ive got a Nokia 5190 which I aquired when I was with PowerTel. It still sports the PowerTel service name on the screen. I wanted to know how to change it from PowerTel to Vstream and even T-Mobile. Is it possible? Thanks! |

Home market name is stored on the SIM, not in the phone, and can be updated by (more or less) an administrative SMS. Names displayed when roaming (in a system using another MNC) are pulled from the phone, and only a firmware update can change them. (This means you may see things such as phone showing "Vstream" in 310-270 old Powertel, but "Aerial" in 310-310, "Omnipoint" in 310-160, "BellSouth" in 310-150, "USA 38" for AT&T, etc. My old 6190 does exactly that.) -SC
