I have the Verizon America's Choice Plan and I live in New York City. I will be in the Disney World / Orlando area in Florida in August. Would anyone know how the America's Choice network works down there? Is it good? This way I know whether to bring a calling card or not. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. |

Verizon serves the Orlando area, so yes it is a part of the America's Choice Network. I can't speak for coverage as I have never used there service in Orlando.

Images: 3 | Joe post back, I'd like to know myself. I'm going down there in August (10-16, I may beat you there). I do know that Verizon is 1900 CDMA there, so the coverage may be weaker out in rural areas. Sprint and Verizon (I think) sort of work together down there, so you may be on "Extended Network" aka Sprint, which is included in the AC plan. Have fun! I have been there many times, but used my VoiceStream phone without any problems. Several years ago at the Disney Park I tried to use a Sprint Phone and it was terrible. AT&T was the official wireless phone at Disney at that time (they may still be - but I don't know about that now) and they had AT&T towers on their property, so their signal was pretty good. Remember, Disney and all their parks cover a very large area. Some places may be better for one carrier than another, then at a different park the other may be better. We need input from someone that has been there lately.

several years ago is a while......id think by now most of the carriers all have a strong signal at the park that is my speculation unless at&t signed an exclusivity deal to house cell sites on disney property, which i dont know if they are allowed to do that by the FCC....we'll have to wait for people that go there to give us their feedback.

You'll be fine in Orlando. Verizon has decent coverage in Florida. They've spent a lot of $$$$ upgrading Primeco's network. By the way Verizon's Florida network is all 1900. If you have the AC plan, you'll be allowed to roam on Sprint CDMA and if that doesn't work, then AT&T analog. Not to worry, you'll have service.

Joe, I dont use VS but I work at the Kennedy Space Center (30 miles east of Disney) and the rep that sells phones to US pushes VS really hard. She is also an authorized AT&T, CINGULAR and Verizon dealer and recommends VS. I hope this helps and enjoy your stay. (I am also originally from NY, Gerritsen Beach) (Coney Island area)

Just an FYI - At Disney, Sprint has HORRIBLE coverage (tons of dead zones).... Verizon is decent, but definitely has some weak spots.... Especially in the Magic Kingdom. Voicestream has horrible service at Disney.... AT&T is ok... but again, has some weak spots... The one who has the best coverage ON DISNEY PROPERTY is by far Cingular. But, as I said, most of the others are OK... just not wonderful. Robert |
