I'm looking to switch my plan from Sprint. My main reason is I really don't like their customer service. I've narrowed it down to Verizon and Cingular. I call friends and family all over the country and only travel outside of the Carolinas 4 or 5 times a year. I also need phone suggestions. Something in the $100 range?! Thanks!! |

Where do you travel to those 4 or 5 times a year when you do leave the Carolina's? The problem with Cingular is they are GSM in your area thus giving you a more limited coverage area when you travel. That being said I've heard good things about them in that market and according to there website the Charlotte area looks well covered by them. Go to Cingular's website and look at there home maps for the entire Cingular GSM southern region and click on the map to get a detailed coverage map of your area. If you are typically sticking to the coverage areas then Cingular should be fine for you, however if you go to the edges of there coverage you might want to think about somebody else. If you go beyond them you definately proabely want to choose somebody else. |

So you've narrowed it down to Cingular and Verizon? I believe the Carolinas are well-served by Alltel. And if so then Verizon would do well there since Alltel is part of the America's Choice network. |

Kenny, Be very careful when comparing Verizon and Alltel in North Carolina. There are many areas of the state -- Charlotte being one of them -- where they compete head to head in the same market. In those markets a Verizon user will NOT roam on Alltel -- or vice versa. Only in those Alltel areas not served by Verizon will you use Alltel on the AC plan -- and in NC those are decidedly the more rural areas. I agree however that Verizon is probably the best carrier in Charlotte and the combination of Verizon and Alltel cannot be beat within NC. |
