Default Hooray my Atlanta based AT&T contract expires next month !

My AT&T Wireless SE regional plan expires next month . I won't renew with ATTWS because of the terrible Atlanta service ( 60-70% f my use ) . I was satisified with the rest of the SE coverage because I didn't pay roaming fees in rural areas . The plan (with the promotions) gave me 500 anytime + 1,000 off-peak minutes for $ $39.00 +fees, taxes etc = $ 45 somehtine a month . Any suggestions ? -thanks

Also checkout this plan, it can't be beat:
Voicestream GET MORE 3000

$49.99

Voicestream got the JD Power award for the Atlanta area this past year.

If you want GOOD service in buildings and rural areas of Atlanta, go with either Verizon or Cingular, Atlanta metro is not a PCS friendly market- too much terrain (especially on the northside like Kennesaw mountain, Sweat and it only gets worse the farther north you go) and microwaves just don't like them thar hills.

Cingular has plans like Cingular nation that are no roaming/LD anywhere. Verizon has America's choice and so far I have been VERY SATISFIED with the Georgia coverage. In tests I did for a public safety agency, Verizon and Cingular had the best coverage; the PCS boys had the worst, though Voice Stream had the best of the PCS world- they have the most established PCS network (Powertel) in this market. But they still could not hold a candle to the cellular (800MHz) systems that have been around for much longer.

All the carriers offer some type of return policy, verizon's is 14 days with unlimited useage (but equipment must be in new shape), you pay for the service you use. Cingular is similar, but I think you are limited to less than 30 minutes of airtime. Sprint is 14 days, not sure on minutes. Not sure on VS or AT&T. Just be sure to try it in areas where you will be using it most.

Cingular changed there return policy its now 15 days with no minute restriction. VoiceStream's return policy is only 72 hours, and I believe AT&T's is 30 days.

By the way not to be picky but you are a day off Verizon's return policy is 15 days.

Voicestream is out because I need the rural coverage ( the boonies in GA, AL, FL and Ft. Myers ). I guess it it is Cingular or Verizon but the rates just aren't that good and it appears that they have done away their SE Regional plans in favor of the AC , network only plans etc.

Wow, I really don't know what to tell you then. I would recommend Verizon over Cingular anytime, but since the rates aren't anything nice, then I don't what to tell you.

Aimwapro - It's too bad the VS SE 3000 get more won't work for me because of rural needs and FT. Myers coverage. It looks like I'll go for the Verizon AC and hope I don't have holes which which trigger $ off-system roaming fees. BTW - just for the heck of it even though I would renew be cause of their crappy ATL coverage , I contacted AT&T about my currently about to expire plan and they said I could stay on after the expiration date month to month loosing my 200 bonus mins and 1000 free n/w mins giving me 300 anytime mins only fro $ 39.95 . They made no effory to retain me - I fugured that would at least attemp to make me an offer .

That's exactly why I decided to leave AT&T Wireless ... they had some service issues in Atlanta (that they were unwilling to address), they had bad customer service (just calling to make a payment was unpleasant at times), and they didn't even try to keep me when I threatened to leave.

Anonymous -- it sounds like you've already made up your mind, but I can personally vouch for Cingular in the Atlanta area. Their coverage here is outstanding and their current promos on the Nation plans are great if you travel -- no roaming, no long distance, 3500 N&W, etc. etc. If you have not already committed to VZW, it might be worth at least looking into the Cingular option. If you're looking to spend in the ballpark of $50 you can do so with 500 peak Nation-wide minutes and 3500 N&W.

Good luck,
ATLguy

More comments from the original poster -

Hello ATLguy - I will consider another look at Cingular . Anyway it'll be a big relief for me to leave poor AT&T Wirless Atlanta local service behind for just about any other provider. I just don't like paying more per minute but at least I'll get better local service with Cingular or AT&T. BTW ,it looks like from their website that the Cingular plans require a 2 year contract (2 years is no go for me).

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH VERIZON.
Verizon is worse and their customser service stinks and they are rude. I joined with Verizon back at the end of September, and two months later I wanted to switch my plan because I was using too many mintues during the week than I had signed up for. It has taken me until April, yes like 2 months ago April to get them to finally put me on the correct plan. I had to call each month and get the bills adjusted and it finally took me getting a manager in customer service on the phone. I went one month just paying the minimum plan I was SUPPOSE to be on cause I got tired of calling them all the time and now they are stating that I owe them an outrageous balance, which is wrong. So I have been emailing that last few days to the executive office, whom by the way are just as rude as the folks in customer service. I emailed customer service about it and they told me that I need to contact the financial department so I did and the guy there says, i don't why they told you to call us you need to call them, they are the only one that can adjust balances. And I said ok, I wish someone knew what is going on here, and he said well I'll connect you right now and I said well I will contact them when I get back to work, because I am lunch right now and I don't feel like spending 20 mintues on the phone with them on my lunch break. And the guy in the financial department starts raising his voice at me because i told him that I would call them on my own time. I ended up hanging the phone up on him. And that is when I emailed the executives. She's just as imcompentent as all the others. We're still disputing and she keeps telling me that I'm wrong and I keep telling her to prove me wrong and she can't but she still insists that it is the correct balance. My phone is still under a year warranty and I can barely talk on it. The one before that was so bad that when I went to the Verizon store I had to tell the guy that I wasn't leaving before I got a new phone and if he didn't give me a new phone he was going to have to call the cops on me first. So now I have a new phone which is better than the last one, same brand phone though, (Motorola), and is still bad, better but still bad, it won't last a whole day even if I only talk on it for 30 minutes and just leave it on. It's almost dead by 730 in the evening after being on the wall charger all night for like 8 hours. So along with this dispuste about the balance with them they refuse to give me a new phone and tell me I need to upgrade. I told them that this brand sucks and that I shouldn't have to pay for an upgrade on a phone that is still covered under the year warrany and with service not even a year. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH VERIZON. They are awful and DO NOT care!!! It has been one hassle after another since December. If I were you I would stay with Cingular. And do not sign up witht Voice Stream either, they have no coverage if you travel at all.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Tired of seeing that post. I love Verizon, some love VS, ect.....some carriers are better options for some people. Sorry that Verizon sucked for you....but for millions of others it is still great. Good luck with your new carrier.
