SID 42 is Alltel. It was a system formerly owned by GTE.

I am very familiar with the area. Are you in Naples Park, Pelican Bay, East Naples, our in the Golden Gate area? When we had Verizon for a short time, when we went from Ft. Myers, to Naples, our LG VX6000 never once picked up an Alltel signal. This is just a suggestion, but maybe you should update your PRL number. I was told by a rep. that Verizon has put up 10 towers in and around the Naples/Ft. Myers area within the last 6 months. I have only roamed twice in Naples on our Sprint phones. Once inside of a Perkins restaurant, on Pine Ridge Rd. by exit 107, and once inside of Publix (which is Florida's chain of grocery stores), on the corner of Vanderbilt and Airport Pulling Road North.

thank you for all the insight..my prl is up to date...i am on the gulf...like right on the gulf. the only time i switch over is when i'm inside a big...solid building which makes sense considering verizon is 1900mhz. otherwise when i'm outside i have a full signal. it's not like a problem i was just wondering what signal i was picking up.. so Alltel is SID 42? is that both CDMA and AMPS? and is Alltel CDMA 800 here in naples? (i know this are all totally pointless questions but i'm curious) |

Yes, SID 42 (ALLTEL Tampa/SW FL) is CDMA and AMPS at 800 MHz. -SC

----The tall high rise condos on the beach?---- That is cool that you are right on the gulf. Our house is a 2-2.5 mile drive from the gulf. In the summer, we get the afternoon "gulf" breeze.

Thank you. OK I have a really dumb question but here goes: Do your unlimited night/weekend minutes apply when your on Extended Network. I know your M2M (in network) minutes don't apply, but I wasn't sure about night/weekend. Thanks. |

Yes, Unlimited N/W minutes work on Extended network. M2M also works in most Alltel markets, per the email I received from customer service: Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. We are happy to assist you with this inquiry. Some of the extended network calls will use your Mobile-to-Mobile (MTM) minutes; such as with most of the Alltel markets. Please always keep in mind, there are some extended network locations that will not use your MTM minutes. As part of our Worry Free Guarantee if you ever have a problem, it becomes our problem the first time you contact us. Please write to us again through www.VerizonWireless.com if you have any further questions. We appreciate your business. Thank you for using Verizon Wireless products and services. Sincerely, Saleem Verizon Wireless Customer Care |

Yes the weather is amazing, as long as there is no hurricane, which their hasn't been for many many years. We have had some close calls here, but nothing major. Back in the summer of 1995, we had a strong tropical storm that hit us directly, but it was just 70 mph for the winds, and 18 inches of rain...... | |

I have been in worse, but it was pretty windy. Up at the campus that my sister and I go to, she has a big lake behind her dorm room, and the lake usually doesn't have any waves on it, but yesterday and Tuesday the waves were 2-3 feet with whitecaps on the lake....... | |

Bump... I have a question that pertains to this old thread that hasn't been used in a couple of years. I am a new cell owner but I've borrowed quite a bit so I know a little about them but I've never owned one. Now that I have one at my house, I am getting a roaming signal that begins, literally about 100 yds from my house. I went to system: network and did a few tests. I have service with Alltel and when I'm in town with a good signal my phone reads: Sys ID 74 Net ID 20 But about 100 yds from my house it switches to: Sys ID 1290 Net ID 1 I live in between two large hills where the signal is really weak. I get just one bar at my house but that was a pleasant surprise because when I got the phone I wasn't expecting any because of the landscape around my house. Does anybody have any idea what network I am switching over to that is causing the roaming triangle to appear? |

The SID 74 is your regular Alltel signal. SID 1290 is Apalachian Cellular for Kentucky RSA-9, serving Pike County, on the KY/VA border. Could you be in Buchanan or Dickenson Counties? COtech

COtech, Thanks for your help. That indeed is a strange signal in that case. Actually I live in Wise County outside the town of Wise. Which means that there's a whole other town (Pound) between me and the VA-KY border. I guess it's a stray signal that is an anomaly of the landscape. Thanks for checking this out. Do you think it would be of any help to contact Alltel about the problem since it appears their tower radius ends about 100 yds from my house? And it is true that Alltel does not have a roaming agreement with them so I will be charged full roaming price. P.S. At least now I know not to answer and to call people back on my landline. I could not consider switching to Appalachian Wireless because primarily they don't even sell service in Wise County or apparently cover anywhere but my house and second because I'm planning on moving to Norfolk, VA in a few months so I don't have that option. Thanks again. |

You could contact Alltel about your lack of signal in their licensed area. Walk into their coverage (when you have enough time), and try asking CS to transfer you to a tech. This way the too-weak (for you) site could be identified. I think that you will move before Alltel's solution is formulated, and carried out--but your home's next owner would benefit. You can take action by improving your signal, using an external antenna. See this eBay sale. The magnet mount omni-directional verical could work on your refrigerator or drier, and your car roof, too. The uni-directional Yagi could be aimed, using the signal strength indicator or numerical display, at your nearest Alltel tower, and eliminate reception of Apalachian Cellular entirely. The omni might still make Apalachian Cellular look better than Alltel, in the clear. You might be able to put it on the "far" side of the house from AC (increasing AC's signal loss), making the Alltel signal look relatively better and usable. COtech

Thanks for your help COtech. I put in an order with cellantenna.com (the CA12M) for a magnetic mount antenna. I will obtain an Alltel signal from time to time but it is infrequent and I can't hold onto it. I am hoping with this small boost, I might be able to hold onto it. I will also set my phone to home only when the antenna comes in. I do plan on mounting the antenna outside and running the cable inside. On a side note, if it does not work that is alright. I really have nothing to lose because the antenna was very cheap ($40 with cables) compared to a yagi ($100 with cables) and if it doesn't work, I guess I'll have a nice antenna to use on my car. Thanks so much for your help and I will keep you posted on if my solution works.
