Default GA/FL coverage notes

Was in the Jacksonville area over the weekend...did a side trip to Gainesville to check out coverage

- AT&T has GSM (1900) up in Macon (already reported here) -- it doesn't reach very far outside Macon proper, though; at least it's stronger than VZW's original terrible 1900 buildout in Macon...
- AT&T has GSM850 up in the old USCC area in SW GA/NE FL, at least along I-75
- Cingular now has native GSM coverage along the entire length of I-16, including in the Dublin area where Cingular apparently used to roam on T-Mobile; Cingular also has GSM the full length of I-75 in GA. In NW FL north of Gainesville/Alachua County, Cingular has no native coverage and roams on T-Mobile (but, oddly, not AT&T's 850...)
- Cingular phone briefly roamed on TDMA on SID 1155 (AT&T/ex-USCC) just north of Gainesville...the only place I saw where the Cingular phone roamed on TDMA short of forcing it off GSM
- The only GSM in Camden County, GA is T-Mobile (no AT&T, no SunCom, no Cingular)
- VZW isn't bad at all in Jacksonville, despite the fact it's an old PrimeCo market, but Cingular's a bit better (being 850 and all)
- PSC Wireless has a little island of GSM850 along I-75 in Dooly County

More as I remember it...

Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen my hometown mentioned on WA before (aside from when I incorporate it into my posts). You're right about T-Mobile being the only GSM there. I keep hoping that Cingular will come down from Brunswick eventually, but nothing so far. That has been the trend; a provider comes to Brunswick, builds out in Camden, sells service (with a Brunswick number which is long distance from Camden), and then eventually offers local numbers. Sprint did this from Jacksonville. They sold service with Jacksonville numbers for the longest time. I have several friends who got T-Mobile service before they went to school at Georgia Tech last fall. (I strongly advised them toward Verizon after reading about how poor T-Mobile service is in Atlanta on your website, but they wouldn't heed my words.) They said that T-Mobile coverage in Camden County is getting better. They even have coverage out in the boonies in Woodbine in the northern part of Camden.

Thanks Stanley for your thorough report.
