Default Suncom GSM in Greenville, SC

I am one of the unfortunate many that has found out recently the I am locked in for another year - automatically!!!

    1) Does anybody know if Suncom charges any money to switch plans?

    2) Does switching plans cause your contract anniversary date to be pushed further (i.e. extended) ?

    3) Does anybody know if Suncom has activated GSM service in Greenville, SC? And how is the service.

    4) I have family outside the US. Has anybody sent SMS outside USA on GSM network?

    5) What are the best service providers in the Greenville area? How is Cingular GSM in Greenville?

    Thanks.

    1. Yes SunCom now charges you a stupid $35 fee to change your rate plan.

    2. No, switching rate plans does not extend your contract.

    3. According to SunCom's Network map they do have GSM Service in that area but it looks pretty thin to me. If you are really wanting GSM service Cingular is proabely a much better choice for you in that area. See the link below.

    4. SunCom's GSM Network still does not even support inter carrier SMS much less international SMS. Even on the GSM network in order to send messages to other carriers you will need the email address of there phone.

    5. I can't fully answer that one but I have heard Cingular Wireless has a pretty good GSM network in place in that area. You'll need to ask around locally about that one.
