Default Cingular GSM messes up again

My number went out of service AGAIN today. At first I couldn't place calls, but that cleared up after a while. For several hours I couldn't receive calls AND my voice mail wouldn't answer. A Cingular representative said this was another widespread network problem. I am nearly ready to pay a cancellation fee of several bills and ditch them just to have a reliable phone!

Default Cingular GSM messes up again

I was talking to a friend on the net earlier from MA and he was having trouble with his Cingular GSM service also. I have not had any problems though. I have received and made quite a few calls today. I even used Text Messaging quite a bit today and everything worked fine.

I've noticed that these outages so far only seem to be effecting the overlay markets. The pure GSM markets seem to be fine. I haven't heard any reports of problems from users in East TN, NC, SC, CA, NV and etc.... These are all pure GSM markets and they seem to be fine. It's the areas where Cingular has overlayed GSM that seem to be having issues.

Luckily I'm in a pure GSM Market and my service has been fine this weekend

What is the cause of these problems in the overlay markets? That really sucks especially for people who their phone as a primary phone or for business. You should never have major issues like that (other than major natural disasters and or blackouts), this is not some sort of mom and pop operations running cell systems with strings and dixie cups.

Cingular surely is acting like a mom-and-pop operation. These last outages have actually involved the numbers themselves going out of service -- on the first outage, calls to my number resulted in a "not a working number" message instead of voicemail, and on the second outage, "a check your number and try again" message would play instead of voicemail. Cingular has overlaid TDMA on analog before, so I don't understand why this has to be a new and difficult experiement for them. What was really odd on the first outage was that any one of my three numbers would go out of service randomly -- maybe one would be out and come back in service, then the other two would go out, then all three would be out, etc. I have no idea what's going on in their network.
