When a phone is unlocked, it means that any service providers sim chip can put in the phone.

I seem to remember hearing that SIM cards from GAIT phones are not interchangeable with non-GAIT phones. Is that true? If it is, then you would not be able to use the 6340i SIM card in the 6800. If Cingular has completed their conversion to GSM in Miami you should have no problem using it there, and you should also be able to roam onto T-Mobile.

Rebuy2,

This is not true. You can put the GAIT SIM into a GSM Cingular phone. I've done it. However, if you put the GAIT SIM into another GAIT phone, the GSM will work, but you need to have the ESN registered to have the TDMA work.

Thanks guys for the input... After doing some web-crawling I found out that there is a GSM network here in south floirda but its kind of small... luckily it does cover my area. I noticed that they are planning to expand that area in the future so thats cool. I also read on the Cingular website (after hours of website disection) that SIM cards are in fact interchangable. So I guess that the answer.... oh check this out guys Interesting info about Cingluar

I want to thank everyone for thier input and without you guys I would not have been able to find anything... thank you so much!!!

Thanks, viewfly, I guess I heard wrong! That makes sense, would you also have to program (either manually or OTA) the handset for the TDMA to work if you put the SIM from another GAIT phone in it? I also wonder if and when Cingular and AT&T will completely shut off their TDMA, since they are the major TDMA providers it seems there would not be much incentive to maintain it after they complete their conversion. Of course, I realize they still have many TDMA subscribers who don't want to switch to GSM, and they would maintain the network for a time because of them, but it seems they would make a concerted effort to convince them to make the switch and then eventually shut their TDMA down.
