Nextel is best in DC. THe post tested all six carriers at a bunch of locations for dropped calls, static and signal strength (no idea how they tested) and came up with the following averages out of ten..

Averages:
AT&T: 9.4
Cingular: 8.9
Nextel: 10
Sprint: 9.1
T-Mobile: 8.7
Verizon: 9.4

That sounds about right, Nextel does do very well in major metropolitan areas, normally where they have service..its good.

nextel's service in DC really isnt great. they have downtown covered well and do well with building penetration, but they are pretty weak in suburban VA, despite the fact that they are headquartered there...

Thats sounds like T-Mobile, when I lived in Seattle,Wa T-Mobile had terrible service there, and their headquarters is located in that state.
