No More SunCom! Ok today I called SunCom. I was told a couple of months back ago that I was under contract until January 2004 and I knew that had to be wrong. I knew it was October so I called SunCom and found out that I was indeed correct. My contract runs out October 27th. Anyways I told SunCom to NOT self renew my contract and to cancel the service when the contract runs out. So on October 27th I'm finally going to be rid of this crappy provider!

No More SunCom! Good Dump them they were no good int he first place because when I got them in June of 2002 it was formely Suncom(Telecorp) and the first day we got them we had no service at at our house but we did int he city. so thats what made me mad and then we were always charged for roaming eventhough we were in our coverage area and the phone read Suncom. But about 2 weeks ago we cancelled them and switched to Verizon
which has made all the difference in coverage and in Customer Support so dump Suncom and go with Verizon
because they got you covered....Hope this helps!!!!
BEWARE OF ATT LACK OF SERVICE AND COVERAGE!!!!!!!!

No More SunCom! That was TeleCorp PCS which was a different SunCom. That company is now AT&T
Wireless. Triton PCS which still markets under the SunCom name is a different company. I never had much of a problem with the coverage area. It's just there lack of certain services and there damned stupid contracts that bugged me. I also have noticed that TDMA audio quality seems to just be going down.
My Main Reasons For Canceling:
1. Poor Audio Quality in Noisy Enviroments.
2. No Inter carrier SMS/Poor SMS.
3. Self Renewel Contracts.

No More SunCom! No they didn't fall under the same company. Orignally there was 3 companies that went under the name SunCom but they all was run by a different company and had different rate plans and policy's. Confusing I know!
There was TeleCorp, Tritel and Triton. Tritel was bought out by TeleCorp thus bringing it down to 2 SunCom's. Then AT&T
Wireless bought out TeleCorp and now there is only one SunCom. The remaining SunCom is run by Triton PCS.

Are they still advertising that great 39.99 local calling plan in your area. The one with
1000 anytime
100 free to roam
unlimited night weekends
I think it also had free mobile to mobile
Jack

No More SunCom! Question... the "100 free to roam" is VZW
considered roaming on that plan?

No More SunCom! 1,000 anytime and Unlimited Nights and weekends with LD apply while in the local calling area on that plan. Once you leave the local area then you pull from 100 anytime minutes no matter where you are at in the US or on what carrier.
I'm pretty sure that's how that plan works but I am not 100% sure.

No More SunCom! Dan,
the 1000 are in the local area and the 100 minutes are minutes that you can use on the National Freedom Network AKA America choice.
I would jump on that plan, it's one heck of a deal. I wish that they would offer that plan in my area. Instead I have the plan in my sig.
Jack
P.S.
If you went with alltel do you have any idea what phone you would get? (v60i or t720)

No More SunCom! No, The Free-to-Roam minutes are on any provider. You can get 100 Free-to-Roam minutes with any Local Freedom plan. for $10/month. This special plan advertised is actually just the 1000 minute Local Freedom plan plus the Free-to-Roam minutes. Alot of the stores are calling this the "Flexible Freedom" plan since that's what they called a special "Local Freedom with Free-to-Roam minutes" plan earlier this year.Originally posted by: Jack

No More SunCom! Jack depending on the plans that are out at the time and my money situation I'm not sure what I will do. I may go without a cell phone for a while. If I do decide to get somebody else though most likely I would go with Cingular Wireless. I'm also considering ALLTEL and if I went with them I would proabely get a Motorola T720 or Nokia 3585i.

No More SunCom! Do current AT&T
policies self-renew the existing contract after one year?

No More SunCom! TNDan... jump on that $39.95 1000/100 promo now b/c its about to expire in your area. You must be in one of the few areas that gave that plan out. Your area will soon be selling on the Free To Roam plans with the extra 100 minutes for $10 in addition to local freedom plan. The 1000/100 for $39.95 is $20 less and gives you unlimited m2m.

No More SunCom! AT&T plans DO NOT self renew....that was strictly a Triton PCS policy...and at one point a USCC policy.
Dan - I think I read somewhere about issues with Alltel regarding "nickel and diming" for Voice Mail, Caller ID, etc...by the time you add those on it may run the monthly access up a bit.
If you are positively leaving SunCom, then I would look at, in this order: VZW
, Alltel, Cingular (only because of the GAIT/GSM coverage issues)

No More SunCom! A999, I talked to a ALLTEL employee yesterday and you are correct. She told me that plan would be expiring the end of this month.
Parthery on this promo plan ALLTEL includes everything but voicemail which I was told would cost me $4 extra a month. As many minutes and the fact that all the other features are included in that plan it's not a bad deal. Verizon Wireless
is currently to expensive for me and I don't like there plans so I've ruled them out.

No More SunCom! It doesn't make sense why Alltel still charges extra for voicemail...of course Triton's self renewing contracts don't make much sense either.
I wonder if the "self-renewing" contract is going to go away now that Triton has pledged to the new "Wireless Code of Ethics" or whatever its called.

No More SunCom! TNDan, ask the rep for package 3 upgrade. It's $2. Normally package 3 is $7 but you get $5 credit for the free package 2 that comes with this plan. It includes voice mail (which is normally $2) and digital advisor basic (which is also another $2 and alerts you to voicemail.) You should get what you need for $2 not $4. If she doens't know anything about it decline voice mail at first and call customer service and ask for package 3 upgrade for $2.00 or you can get package 4 upgrade for $5 with voice mail basic (15 messages for 14 days) digital advisor, and mobile web. That's a pretty good deal for the mobile web!
I recommend the Toshiba 9500 also. Very good phone and much better that 720 or v60x. Stay away from the Kyocera phones (except 2325 which is ok.) Nokia 3585i is a pretty good low end phone. Don't get the v120e!!!
Make sure your rep puts all the details about your plan in writing - overage, monthy rates, 15 day gurantee, and such. If you get insurance make sure its clearly noted on your contract. In the case of any problems this will be your proof. Also if you do any rate changes in the future do the same -- go to a local store and get it in writing. Sometimes rate plan changes can disapear in the system and then your stuck with a high bill. Just a word of caution.

No More SunCom! ...and I followed suit shortly after. I still have SunCom and will be with them until Dec. 27, but that did not prevent me from signing up with Cingular. Right now I have two service providers, which gives me the ability to compare them directly. I am much, much happier with Cingular.

No More SunCom! Strangely TritonPCS apparently is porting outside of the top 100 MSAs.
