I was wondering if anyone knows who Verizon Wireless roams with, when they don't have their own native coverage in the Southern U.S.? I am interested in digital and analog roaming signals? Here are the states that are on the Southern U.S. Wireless Forum main website: (AL,AR,FL,GA,LA,MD,MS,NC,OK,SC,TN,TX,VA,DC,VI,PR) Are there any websites that I can go to see who the roaming partners are, besides the SID's that many websites already have on their sites? Thanks for listening to me.

Thanks hollise for the answer. Are they covered under the America Choice calling plans. Is the roaming free. Finally, are they both digital on the extended network.

Most of NC roams on Alltel and US Cellular for digital. Analog roaming is on Alltel. They are part of the America's Choice network (Extended Network)

I travel around the state of Florida frequently. In most areas I get a Verizon signal. However, occasionally, I roam on Alltel digital, or AT&TWS analog. Both are included in America's Choice.

Also Verizon recently completed the transition of the former CellOne network to VZW in much of Georgia. I have only run ito one small area where my phone said ROAM and that was when I took a shortcut on a county road south of Vidalia Ga. There is still quite a bit of Analog Extended Network in much of southeast rural Ga but I have had no problems making calls when I needed to. All in all they have good digital network coverage in Ga, North Fla, SC(Charleston, Columbia, Hilton Head areas) and Charlotte NC.

SoGaUser Judging by your past phone (6340i), you must have been with Cingular prior to Verizon. I also travel those back roads near Vidalia. I'm currently on Cingular Nation using a new 6340i that has not "powered off" yet. In the area south of Vidalia near Plant Hatch, Cingular or their roaming partner is quite good. Probably TDMA. I'm thinking about switching to Verizon and would like to know the pros and cons before I switch. What areas would require "One rate" for no roaming cost? Or does America's Choice have the same no roaming coverage for less $s? |

Qwerty, ----Sorry for the slow reply I haven't checked the wireless forum in a while. For Verizon, the America's Choice Plan works great for Fl-Ga-SC, with some Extended Network areas (no roaming fees) and only a very, very small roaming area. Unlike Cingular's nation plan where there is no roaming, you just have to remember to look at your phone to make sure that you are not roaming. I don't think there are any cities or towns where you roam in. It is not 100% network, but you really don't have to worry about roaming. Customer Service is good and the network has been very reliable. $39.99 ---400 Peak minutes , unlimited N/W minutes plus 1000 M2M minutes is a great deal. ------ I just upgraded to the 6340i phone because I was tired of getting Analog signals virtually every where outside of Florida-even Tallahassee because of the GSM conversion. I was getting good digital coverage with that phone but I was tired of waiting for Cingular to bring back a good Nation Plan. I never liked Alltel so when Verizon came to SE Ga I jumped and gave my Cingular phone and plan to my wife. Wouldn't you know it....Cingular brought back the Nation Plan with no roaming and Rollover 4 weeks after I moved. I think it is $39.99 400 Peak minutes with rollover 1000 N/W minutes----not quite as good but I probably would have stayed. ----Check out the VZW site on the net and decide for yourself. Just like Cingular you have a 15 day guarantee period, use it if necessary. The VG4400 phone is probably the best because you will need the analog capabilities.Take care and good luck.
