Was poking around the FCC ULS site last night looking for something else, noticed that AT&T has turned over quite a bit of spectrum in GA outside the immediate Atlanta area to Cingular. Notably, Cingular got 10 MHz from AT&T in most of PSC Wireless's territory (Coweta County, etc.) -- so between that and NextWave Cingular will have 20 MHz (all 1900) in an area BellSouth/Cingular has battled with for years. Cingular also got 10 MHz in large parts of central GA surrounding Macon. (The FCC ULS site is *very* confusing when it comes to identifying disaggregated/partitioned spectrum... ) -SC

Original "rumor" was that AT&T would sell off their licenses in Columbus and Macon completely....however, with the purchase of USCC in South Georgia/North Florida AT&T make re-think that strategy. Otherwise, they still will be left with a 150 mile "hole" along I-75. Also, didn't Telecorp (now AT&T) own 1900 licenses in Tallahassee and Gainesville. AFAIK, they had 10mhz of 1900 in these markets. If so, then they won't have to carve off part of their spectrum to launch GSM once the USCC conversion is complete. Roamer1 - can you find anything on those PCS licenses? |

just an fyi, all those uscc licenses are 800 mhz, all are a-side...not that it affects me, but how will that affect the gsm rollout once they complete the changeover? Keep the Faith, Lance |

no idea, but terms of the deal give att one year from date of completion of the exchange to transfer everything...expectation is that it will take approx 6 months to convert the billing system, and make minor changes to the network (those areas are still tdma) Keep the Faith, Lance |
