I wonder what just happened as of late, i have a lg 510 with verizon and a 4900 with sprint, and for the longest time verizon had excellent service, and neither phone is defective as of this date, determined by the reps of each respective company, but for some odd reason I have been receiving several dropped calls with my verizon phone and my service has improved dramatically with my sprint phone here in the south east part of florida. I have a 2nd phone as an individual line used by my friend under my account, and my mother has two phones, and all 4 of us have noticed a huge negative difference in verizon service. I have a few friends that work for radioshack and they have told me that they have been getting a lot of complaints about verizon in the broward county area of florida. I've done *228 and software upgrades, and it feels like when I originally had sprint almost a year ago with all the dropped calls. I don't receive as many dropped calls but enough for it to become annoying. My sprint phone is giving me emaculate service, which makes me almost feel happy I didn't completely drop them as a service having two phones. Sprint is off contract, and verizon is ending in september and I don't know if I should drop verizon or are they on a temporary slump right now. Anyone else heard any complaints like this related to verizon. I remember talking to friends with sprint a while ago and now they all tell me that their sprint phones get excellent reception and don't drop any calls. Has sprint invested $ to upgrade their network recently and is verizon lagging behind...what's the deal, they seem like complete opposites to me sometimes, lol! It gets really bad at night time when I'm sleepy, I hear my verizon phone switch in and out of service multiple times again and again which I used to have to say about sprint last year...what gives?

I am in Broward as well and I have Verizon and the LG VX4400 and I can say the only places where I have some problems and I go out everywhere, is a friend's apartment in Sunrise where everyone drops calls if they are calling from indoors, certain areas inside Uncle Al's restaurant in Weston, and ocassionally some parts inside the Sunrise Walmart on Oakland and University. My friend has Sprint and had the Samsung A460 which was horrible, and now has a Sanyo 8100 and it is an improvement but he still drops calls at his dad's house in Davie and he dropped a few calls at Publix in Davie on University and Orange Drive. It seems when your inside certain buildings service usually is not as good. As far as being outdoors I get signal pretty much everywhere. I had the Samsung A310 and I can honestly say that was a terrible phone and was pretty much unusable in many places and was always being serviced but the nice people at Verizon in Hollywood let me swap for the LG VX4400 in the middle of my contract and now I get service everywhere the Samsung could not.

Did a tech actually test it on test equipment?

yea, they did a software update on the phone and tested it out and said the phone was fine. but it's not just me, i have a 2nd phone on that account and know 3 other ppl with verizon phones and they all tell me the same thing. From pompano down to pembroke pines, i'm getting a lack of service and noticed that my sprint is working perfectly where ever the verizon is dropping calls and my sprint phone is older and more beat up than my verizon phone. And then the testimonial from my friend who works in radioshack telling me that more and more verizon customers are complaining helped solidify my opinion on verizon along with my personal experience. Verizon themselves told me they are trying to go all digital and remove their analog towers(no more need for tri-band phones) so the my friend at radioshack told me it's possible that verizon is paying more attention to putting up new towers and not maintaining the old towers...who knows...i just wanted to see other ppl's opinions on this!

It sounds like to me that you are more happy with your Sprint PCS service at this time. Since your Verizon Wireless contract is up soon just dump them and keep your Sprint phone.

I would not dump anyone, specialy Verizon. As we all know Verizon is going though some Netowrk Upgrades, with thier Launch of PTT and all. They could be working on that market down there. I was just in Pembroke Pines Yesterday and had NO problems with Verizon at all, my aunt who has Sprint was constaly complaing of the terrible service. I have a second house in West Pembroke Pines were i stay from time to time and have never had any problem with Verizon in the Broward Market. I would say its your phone, regardless of what the tech said, IMO.

In northeast Georgia, while I am at home in Commerce, my Verizon phone frequently switches between analog and digital, even though the signal meter might show three bars. In Athens, I have a friend whose Verizon phone frequently dropped calls, and my wife experienced the same thing while trying out a phone from Verizon (for which reason we took it back and cancelled service). One person's call ends and the other person hears a fast busy signal while their call stays in progress. (In the dropped calls I experienced, there was no signal degradation before the fact, yet when I experience signal degradation the call is not likely to drop -- so these dropped calls have nothing to do with signal quality.)

Verizon is obviously experiencing network trouble here, too.

i would love to say it's my phone, because i really like verizon overall...the service has degraded but i will give them a chance incase it's just a minor lapse. but i only feel it's not my just isolated to my phone because i know other people experiencing the same thing with their verizon phones. as for sprint, it drops a call here and there, but nothing like what my verizon phone is doing to me and other friends of mine. i love verizon's customer service over sprint's and love sms over the way sprint does their txt messaging, but if it was to continue throughout the rest of the year, then i will consider leaving verizon, otherwise i'll continue with two phones because IMO wherever verizon leaves off, sprint takes over. I wish i could combine both companies, like verizon pcs or something like that, lol. but until then, i'll take the good with the bad and see if verizon pulls through in the future. but i have decided to talk less negatively of sprint for the time being...they have improved and people should recognize that.

I would not put up with the frustration of not being able to use my phone when I pay for the service. I would simply cancel and use a carrier that works where needed. Forget about promises, they take an eternity to come to fruition. In the meantime, you can either be stuck in a contract paying for a service you can't use in your house, or you can be a happy camper using a company that can give you the service you pay for.

whoever told you that verizon was trying to ditch their analog service was either lying or misinformed...the FCC has mandated that analog be maintained until at least 2007...so don't worry about losing analog coverage...and even after that they'll likely keep analog around for quite some time, because of the huge amount of analog capable phones out there, they'll keep analog as long as they're making money off it, i guarentee you that

Keep the Faith,

Lance

actually it was two verizon reps and one radioshack rep that mentioned it to me, and it could be that verizon is just placing digital towers whevever they have analog, because they have some displays in the store advertising this as their plan to go "all-digital" and stuff like that. The ad also said that verizon intended to spend over 100 million just in florida alone for network expansion. I think they just want their wireless internet more accessible because their coverage is pretty good.

FYI, Verizon has free roaming on Sprint PCS in the South Florida area. You can use ATT Wireless analog, Verizon Wireless or SprintPCS with a trimode phone in South Florida with Americas Choice. So coverage really shouldnt be an issue with Verizon in this area in terms of signal. But in terms of network capacity, thats another issue.

South Florida happens to have one of the highest population growths in the USA. Verizon is indeed spending money on upgrades and there was a press release not too long ago to this effect. Busy circuits can easily be fixed but spectrum issues are more complex and may require an acquisition of spectrum.

i like that option of no roaming, and it has helped out in a few situations, although quite rare...but my gripe is the dropped calls which i hope they fix. While typing this, my phone probably switches service once or twice, and throughout the day, could switch a dozen times and if i was on the phone at the time, it probably would've resulted in a dropped calls. I would love to say it's the phone, but other friends experience it...we'll see, i love verizon, their customer service, and cell service for the most part, but the thing that gets to me is the recent dropped calls and i'm not too fond of their upgrade policy...which i'm sure no one else is either!!!
