The SIM is in the mail, I can't use the phone yet but I noticed the following under SIMlock: Network (open padlock) 5 Network subset (open padlock) 5 Service Provider (open padlock) 5 Corporate (open padlock) 5 I go out on the limb here and make an assumption that this phone is unlocked, but what is the #5 mean? Plus, once I get my new inactivated SIM card, will I be able to check attws gsm coverage where I live, or I have to active a charter account to do that? Any inputs greatly appreciated. tnx... |

I got the phone on eBay. I received my SIM today and I was able to check out ATTWS coverage in my area... not much to speak of. I guess I'll be sticking with TDMA for now. |

hello. i heard (and read reviews) that the T39 is not very good. is this true? i saw that the most trouble people have is with the buttons. they say that the scolling is very slow, and that you have to wait about half a second after you press a button for the phone to scroll down. how true is this?

I'm new to T39, don't have much experience with it, but I did notice a little bit of delay working with the menu or entering text. I don't think it's significant though.

I was using a T39m for quite a while and never had any problems. The only complaints I have heard are that the buttons are too small or too close together which causes errors when composing messages. Of course, the same is said about the Nokia 8290, my current phone.

Oops... too quick with the Enter key. An other thing I could add to this is, which bothers me a bit, that when the phone goes to sleep (power saving mode) it doesn't always displays the signal strength meter. It alternates between signal strength meter, current time and battery status in one phase and the name of your provider the next, i.e. AT&T Wireless. I found this a bit annoying, especially when you're driving and look down on the display hoping to catch a glimpse of the signal strength meter. But I guess this is the price you pay for longer battery life. I can't say I had any problems with the size of the buttons. |

I don't think there are any problems with the T39. It's a great phone and I recommend it to anyone that wishes to use Bluetooth to connect to a phone. Most people have jumped on the T68 bandwagon due to its color screen, and other small perks, but the T39 provides something that the T68 doesn't.. an external antenna! The RF reception is supposedly much more reliable in fringe areas as opposed to a T68. If you primarily use your phone where there is strong GSM signals, then there's nothing to worry about with the T68. Anyways, it's a great phone! The number (5) next to the opened padlock symbol were the number of attempts the phone had to enter in the correct unlock code. If the phone was locked, the user would have only 5 chances at entering in the correct code.. period. I think the phone will still work, but just doesn't allow it to be unlocked anymore. There are still ways around this as there are few programs out there that can literally reset that number back to 5. Sung H. Suh Virtual Dynamix, LLC |

to all who own or have used a t39: i have seen on different websites that you can take off the antenna. what is the purpose of this? can the phone still have reception after you take the antenna off? do you recommend this phone, or would you advise to buy another?

T39 antenna is removeable, but only to replace it with another one. No reception without! By the way - does anyone know why the T39 has been discontinued? Any ideas mail me: drslashers@hotmail.com |

Anonymous, Probably because it has been replaced with the T68m (which has also been replaced with the T68i). Again, it's a great phone if you want a flip phone with Bluetooth. -- Sung H. Suh Virtual Dynamix, LLC |
