Default Cingular dropping Z520a

I've been told by two different Cingular reps that as of today Cingular is no longer selling the Z520a due to "memory problems,"

Does anyone know what this is about?

I haven't heard anything. I have had the Z520i for over 3 weeks and haven't noticed any problems. I wrote a condensed review here (Preliminary Z520i Review), if you are interested.

Hope this helps

the z520a has a problem where when you turn the phone off it erases the v.m. number so when your power it off it throws most people off, a quick fix is to save the voicemail number as a contact then assign it to the 1 speed dial key, instead of holding 1 down it is just like any speed dial, press it then hit call.

I don't have this problem on my Z620i. I power it off/on every day and it has never lost the VM number. Ofcourse mine is unbranded so quite possibly the additional Cingular software is causing this just as it is/was for the 6682.

I was just told by yet another Cingular rep that the phone is fine but is being dropped only because it was a "holiday promotion." I've received so much conflicting info from both Cingular and verizon reps I don;t trust anyone anymore

Sony Ericsson z520a recall January 14, 2006
Radioshack Corporate communication for today included a little note regarding a recall of all unsold z520a handsets (sold on Cingular service). It seems they have a pretty rough memory leak that prevents the phone from ringing properly or being able to start any applications. The excerpt from the memo follows:

CINGULAR SE Z520a RMAC
Effective immediately, please RMAC ALL Cingular SE Z520a (170-3058) handsets.

* You will not be replenished on this handset until mid- to late-February.

* If a customer has a defective handset and wants only the 520a, they can use
the Exchange by Mail program to receive a new handset when Cingular receives
more inventory.

* Until then, customers can reset the handset every couple days by powering
off and powering on their handset.

- When the phone is not reset properly, it will eventually run out of memory
and be unable to run applications.¼br /> - Symptoms include partial ring tones, icon distortion, a blue screen with a
black box, icons disappearing and other unusual displays.

I assume this is for all Cingular dealers, as it mentions the XBM program having to wait until Cingular is replenished on the phones. Anyone having these problems? Let us know!

I spoke with their business care division and they informed me that their last broadcast email stated Cingular would be back in stock this week on the phone. They quoted me a price of $62.99 plus a $25 credit.

They sent me a replacement, which was totally scratched up, so I called them, and they sent ANOTHER replacement one, which is STILL scratched, but not TOO bad, So I ended up keeping that one...

Even tho my original phone was in PERFECT condition... Ugh, Cingular pisses me off...
