| http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...=pp1&pid=10136 Does anyone have any idea when this phone will be offered from Cingular? I know it has the needed frequency 850. The Sony Ericsson web site says second quarter of 2004. The "coming soon" notice on the Sony Ericsson web site for this phone has been removed. And the T616 has mysteriously disappeard from the CIngular web site. But does anyone know when this phone is coming out? I don't see it on EBAY. And the last time I tried to ask Cingular about it, after being on the phone for 15 minutes, my Samsung S307 dropped the call. |

Greetings!! http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_forum.php?p=496 According to the above forum, T637 is expected to be available on June 7th. I am not sure if this is true, but considering T616 is already pulled off from Cingular website (at least in NY/NJ area), we may be lucky to finally get our hands on this phone. Only the problem is. . . how to cancel my VZW contract (I still have 3 months to go) without paying cancellation fee (which is highly unlikely). For those VZW customers with matured contract, dying to get v710, this may be your solution. Good luck, guys KOS |

The phone is here! Sweet phone. I like everything about it except for one thing... the subtle "white noise" i hear when there's silence in a phone conversation. It's not bad, and it doesn't obstruct the conversation. But just noticing it is annoying. It dies down once the other person speaks (can still hear it slightly). Other than that, the voice clarity is AMAZING. Still... not quite sure what that "white noise" is. Could it be the background noise this phone picks up? But that'd be something I'd imagine the person listening to ME would notice.... not the other way around. Although, I have to admit I did notice the amazing clarity of all the background noise (people walking up wooden stairs, people talking) as well as the person I was speaking to. Much improved reception from my Samsung S307 as well (all on Cingular GSM). I love the organizer and will use it more than my retired Handspring. I never could get used to carrying that thing around all the time to make it useful, but I never leave without my cell phone. The screen is EXCELLENT, even outdoors! The colors and the clarity is great in sunlight. I'll have to save up and get the bluetooth headset for handsfree calling. Evertying about this phone is excellent and lives up to all I imagined. The only thing is... that mysterious, yet subtle "white noise". Again, it doesn't interfere with communication, but... it's there. Ugh. Amazing phone otherwise. |

you may be referring to what's known as "comfort noise", which is a charectaristic of GSM. It is artificially added so that the phone user feels more at ease (the other person is still on the line). GSM is otherwise dead quiet when nobody is talking. It's louder on some phones than others.

I noticed the subtle white noise on the T637 while I had it too. I could only notice it while there was silence on the other end of the line. What annoyed me most was the camera. It was so bad that SE might as well not have put it into the phone. I am shocked how much worse (Nokia 6820, SE T637, Moto V400/600) the GSM camera phones I tested were when compared to the worst camera on a phone Sprint has ever sold (Sanyo 8100)

Ergh... I wish they would eliminate "comfort noise". I'd rather keep guessing if the other person is still there and having absolute quality on the line, than being comfortable. The picture quality of the phone may not be great. But it doesn't bother me because I don't use the phone to take any pictures or ever planned to. But if you are looking for a camera with your phone, the quality isn't all that great. But I don't really pay attention to how it compares to other camera phones. Of course compared to my 5MP digital camera the picture quality is horrible. But I use the T637 for phone calls and as my organizer. If that's all you want, the added ability to take and send pictures is a nice bonus. Although, the bad part is... you do (as I did) pay the premium for having the camera built-in on the phone. So I may have overpaid for this phone since I don't use the camera, but I am more than satisfied with the phone. |

Had the same problem with the White noise; it sounds kinda like a low swooshing noise. Funny thing was when I called myself on my old phone and muted both phones, the comfort noise was still there. I don't know if it's really loud on the T637, but when I swapped the sim cards, I could barely hear the white noise on my V400. I have to agree comfort noise annoys the heck out of me. |

Unless you can get a deal where Amazon + Cingular pay you to take a T637 I would hold off a bit and get the K700i. Or maybe the S710a.
