RSA expands mobile platform support with RSA SecurID(R) Software Token for Symbian OS and UIQ; Enables strong user authentication via leading enterprise smartphones

LONDON, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA CONFERENCE EUROPE 2007 -- RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC - News), today announced the availability of the RSA SecurID® Software Token 2.2 for Symbian OS(TM) and UIQ. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the market leading operating system for smartphones. Symbian OS is licensed by leading mobile phone manufacturers; to date, more than 145 million Symbian smartphones have shipped worldwide to more than 250 major network operators. Businesspeople who use smartphones based on UIQ and Symbian OS can now leverage their devices to access protected corporate information securely, eliminating the need to carry a separate, stand-alone authenticator.

"As the adoption of smartphones soars, users are increasingly seeking a single device that can meet their varied and evolving business requirements," said Andrew Moran, Head of Enterprise Market Development, at Symbian. "Increasingly, companies are requiring business users to authenticate with more than a password in order to access critical business data. By leveraging the Symbian smartphones people carry everyday, RSA is providing enterprises with flexible authentication options."

The RSA SecurID Software Token 2.2 is designed for smartphones based on UIQ and Symbian OS including leading Sony Ericsson and Motorola devices, and is engineered for use with RSA® Authentication Manager -- the power behind RSA SecurID two-factor authentication.

This product release further broadens the reach of RSA SecurID two-factor authentication; RSA also offers mobile software authenticators for RIM® BlackBerry(TM), Windows Mobile® 5 and 6, Java(TM) Micro Edition and Palm® devices. The ability to use more mobile devices as authenticators helps allow enterprise IT managers to strengthen security while maximizing smartphone investments and making authentication simple and convenient for users.

"We strive to offer the market handhelds that equip users to conduct business with a single device," said Henrik Voigt, Head of Application Management, Open Platform, at Sony Ericsson. "Transforming Sony Ericsson smartphones into authenticators makes them even more attractive and essential to businesspeople."

"As part of RSA's commitment to delivering authentication choice to the market, we seek to place the right authenticator in the hands of each user," said Christopher Young, Vice President and General Manager, Identity and Access Assurance Group at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. "For businesspeople the best authenticator is often a device they already carry. For enterprises that have invested in smartphones, the RSA SecurID software token helps enable them to deploy cost-effective and convenient strong authentication to their users, increasing productivity while bolstering security."

Furthering its collaboration with Symbian, RSA has joined the Symbian Platinum Partner Program, with a goal of developing innovative solutions to meet the needs of an increasingly mobile workforce.

The new version of the RSA SecurID Software Token 2.2 will be available at the end of October. For more information, please visit Software Authenticators - RSA, The Security Division of EMC
