voice activated dialing

can someone tell me quite simply wether i have to pay that $5 fee to use voice dial on my 4900? it seems like its a feature of my phone, the specifications listed on amazon.com (where i bought it) say "voice activated dialing" but damn sprint says that voice activated dialing is an add on feature that costs 5 bucks a month? Is this really true? Does anyone know why I have to pay to use a feature already on my phone (or does it have to like connect to the net to use the voice activated dialing?)

edit: sorry, im an idiot, I spent so long looking for this online and in the manual and then realized shortly after posting that voice activated dialing is free and that voice command is not. My question now is: if i tried to activate voice command (or anything that costs money) would my phone warn me that it costs money or would it happily let me find that out on my next bill?

You are right, one of your phone's features is voice activated dialing. The thing you are paying $5 for is voice command. They are essentially the same. The major difference being that with voice command you can store many many many more names and numbers that your phone's voice activated dialing, and you can also sync voice command with outlook on your computer and have it load all of your contacts, which saves you from doing it all over. The other advantage of voice command is you can say "call 5 7 0 2 7 0 6 7 0 0" and that will connect your call, where your voice dial will only call names you have preset from your phone book. The bottom line is, unless you want to voice dial each of your 300 friends, you will get a long just fine with the voice dial on your phone and you can drop the $5 service of voice command.

From your 4900's main menu select Voice Services. Then select Voice Dial. Then select Program.

An irritating behavior with the 4900 is that it will refuse to record when using a headset. I guess this is to force you to record the entries in a more "real world" environment. Then, when you do use the headset, the difference is so pronounced, the voice recognition fails! Argh! The blasted reason I bought a head set was for hands free use, and when does Sprint think I'm most likely to use voice dialing? When I want hands-free use! My old Samsung 8500 did this without a hitch [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]
