I need another phone and these 2 are my options. chances are I'll go with the sanyo 8100 because it's a lot cheaper, but I need to know a few things. which one outta these 2 phones has longer battery life and which phone has louder earpiece volume because I know there was an earpiece problem the the 5300. is the 8100 pretty loud?

I am not sure of the battery life on a 5300, but my 8100 usually lasts me three days. The 8100 earpiece is very loud. I keep mine at 2 out of 8 possible volume levels. Some even complain that the level 1 settings is too loud.

we have both phones and i have had the 5300 since first week out.. here is what the 8100 differs from 5300 8100=comes with one battery 5300=comes with 2 batteries and the extended battery gets longer talk and standby time.. 8100=lower camera resolution for picture taking (no zoom feature) 8100=was equiped with sprints new ac/dc universal charger with 5300 doesn't 8100 and 5300 have same exact ear peice volume and i have both i know.. 8100 has better software package as far as picture editing but im sure the update soon to come for 5300 8100=has no flash wich i found only matter if u take pictures in the dark within 6 feet u can take decent pictures of people i have done. so basically it all comes down to price and what yur whilling to sacrifice to get it... good luck! both great phones! |

I own the 5300 - the only thing I noticed about the 8100 that I like [more] is the ability to send a sound clip with the pictures... We can't do this on the 5300 can we? ~Bek |

i like the size, and the menu interface of the 8100 better as well as the sound clip feature. but the pixel resolution of the 8100 camera compared to the 5300 is much less. if you are just sending pics from phone to phone it shouldnt make a difference to you- but if you are sending pics to email addies on pc the 5300 pics on hi resolution will destroy an 8100 pic. hence probably the main difference in price between the two.

I keep my volume level at setting 1 on the 8100! I can use level 2 or 3 driving on the interstate with windows down and still hear ok. The 8100 earpiece is PLENTY loud. I have found the lack of a flash may be a problem to some. I tried to take a picture of my daughter making a mess of her face in a restaurant and the moderate light (not low light) was still not good enough to take a decent picture. Still, I have only used the camera 3 times in 2 weeks, so it isn't all that big a deal to me personally. I don't mind the size of the 5300...it looked very similar to my Audiovox 9500 I used with Verizon in that regard, but I couldn't justify spending an extra $150 for an extra battery and a slightly better camera when I already own a nice digital camera.

I like the 5300 better, the screen is quite a bit larger. -jeff |

Nobody answered the voice clip question for the 5300. Is there a way for the more expensive and feature-laden phone to have this ability? Software update? Hack? I think it's pretty silly that the 5300 has the speaker on the back, but no speakerphone capability like the 4900. I think it's pretty silly that the "junior" 5300 (8100) has voice clips for pictures and the flagship (5300) doesn't. Of course, I also think it's pretty silly that there is no serial port on the 5300 for communicating with my PDA. [/rant] Other than these little peeves and the poor earpiece/ringer volume, I like my 5300. |

sixt7gt350 - There is no update or hack for the 5300 for the sound clip feature. And the only Sprint Vision phone that has a serial port is the LG 5350.
