Hello, I've been trying to get this question answered on multiple forums w/ no luck. I'm trying to use my 4900 as a modem to connect to my employers network. I installed the phone no problem on my laptop, which is running 98SE. I can use SnapMedia, SnapSync, and Connection Manager w/ no problems. Using Connection Manager, I followed the instructions to create a new connection, so far no problem. When I click on "GO", then choose the connection I created, it appears to be connecting. I see the Tx & Rx packets on the phone, and the manager shows the status....connecting, authenticating, communicating. Then, I get this error: Connection Failure The port was disconnected due to hardware failure. Now, my question to you all is.......Has ANYONE ever been able to dial a 3rd party # successfully, as I am trying to do??? When I had the Sanyo 4700, this worked great, by merely creating a dial-up connection in windows. Of course, that was a 2G phone, and my 4900 is a 3G phone, but according to the PCS Connection Manager, this should work. Any help would be appreciated!!! Thx |

OK, here's the word from a Sprint tech who knows the drill. 3G - packet-switched - 3rd party connection - connection failure 2G - circuit-switched - 3rd party connection - bingo! Neither you nor I can connect with our Sanyo 4900 phones except to #777. It worked in early January - don't ask why - but no more. 2G connections work with Dialer 3.0 or with DUN to third party numbers. 3G connections work with PCS C/M or with DUN to #777 only. Now, does anyone else have an SCP-4700 they would like to sell me? |

SPCS probably converted to a packet switching in Jan....on the LTD side we are just starting to convert to packet switching. I lost my vision, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, but before I lost vision, I was able to connect to vision via laptop (#777), then use VPN to connect to my company network, worked great...too bad I no longer have vision

Yeah I use VPN to get into a client site all the time. You basically do it the same way you would if you were getting into your company computer from your local internet provider. So, instead of dialing directly into your company network, you dial into your ISP, then from there, you use the Internet/IP?whatever to link into your company. So, work with your tech support folks at work to set up your pc so that you can get into your work through VPN once your PC is on the internet. Then, it won't matter if your pc is on the net using 777/Sprint, your Cablemodem, dialup modem, whatever. Just make sure you get paid for the overtime! - Joe |
