Definitely the case. I'm a blundering fool and I continually knocked my old phone out onto floors, parking lots, and street corners (as did another co-worker). My old Samsung 8500 took many amazing beatings and yet it's still giving great service (My dad has it now, in a leather CASE). From those lessons my new phone REQUIRED a leather case, especially since the 4900 is such a large phone. I bought a generic Belkin Universal Extra-Large case with magnetic snap. I can wear it either horizontally or vertically, so it doesn't catch on door jambs and wall corners nor jab me in the gut when I'm sitting. Either way, the 4900 hasn't been dropped yet -- a real concern since being a non-flip phone the glass display is always in jeopardy. Another reason why I had to have a case. Even if it never fell out of a holster, I was bound to scratch the dickens out of the screen by bumping into and brushing up against things. And I leave the case on even when I slip it in a pocket to keep car keys, pens, etc. from scratching it up. |

I dropped my phone out of my pocket the very 1st day that I had it. The phone landed right on the screen; the screen got a huge crack in it. I had a leather case on order from eBay but it had not showed up yet. Sprint had mercy on me and let me get another. I keep it in the leather case now. I recently ordered a leather belt pouch with magnetic flap. It lets you carry the phone horizontally on your belt. I should get it in a couple of days - I'll let you know if it is a good thing or not. CableGuy |

Craig - where did you get yours from? By the way, your site is great! It's the first place I go when I'm looking for good WAP sites or info. Thanks for your willingness to help out the community.

I like holsters for the simple fact the don't cover up the phone. But I like leather cases because they keep the phone from getting dings and scratches better. I'm getting a 5300 this week, I don't really know which way I'll go, probably a Holster if I can find one

The leather case we carry at Radioshack is not the same as the Sprint one. The Sprint one has a nice hole for the camera with no plastic covering the lens and has plastic to cover the outer display. It also comes in two parts with the top being able to detach from the bottom flip. The one we carry is nice cause of the removable belt clip but I hate the plastic that covers the lens. -mike |

I'm glad you enjoyed the site. It's not big, but I hope it's quality. I've been adding items every week, so keep coming back. This week was clips from Star Trek and links in the WAP portal. My weakest section is the images. I'm thinking of adding an sportsteam logos section and one of state flags next.

I got a Coach leather case from eBay. My only beef w/ it is that it doesn't really fir with the extended battery. Works great w/ the standard one though. This thread talks about it: http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/wafor...threadid=15650 Here's the guy that's selling 'em: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...sort=3&rows=25 - FroBozz

Just an FYI .... I had purchased the Radio Shack leather case for my 5300. I really liked the way it fit although because the plastic covered the camera it caused the flash to reflect back into the lens. If you will have no cause to use the flash then I recommend it. Today, I was lucky to find one @ the Sprint Store and I like this one much better. It's 2 pieces and gives you easier access to changing the battery. Ken |
