Whew. That title about covers it. I'm hoping this will be a continuation of the old "Samsung a460 Ringtones Solved!" thread, which it seems no longer accepts new posts. If i'm wrong (and i'm a total n00b here, so it's quite possible) somebody please point me in the right direction. Anyway, here's my question. I want custom ringtones (don't we all. *sigh*) on my nifty new Samsung SPH-A540 phone. I'm with Telus Mobility, in Canada. It seems that Telus only lets us download ringtones off their website, and their selection stinks, etc. Plus i like cheap (ie. free) things. Using jqs's website (that guy is a genius), i found the mime types my phone accepts. At least, i think that's what it all means. The relevant one, i think is: HTTP_ACCEPT - application/x-mmc.ringtone;content-type=audio/x-mid;size=8192 I managed to procure a website - adgj.port5.com - which allows me to use .htaccess. So... does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do now? |

What have you learned so far about getting ringtones for this infuriating phone? Used to be that when I had my Nokia 3595, I just typed in the URL to the .mid file and that would be it... done!... but I always get "1015: invalid content type" now for the same ringtones... the ones I am trying to use are HERE I used to be able to access that page anytime I wanted from my Nokia and pick one out. none of them seem to work now though. I am afraid I don't understand this ... but you seem to be onto something so would you mind explaining why these mid files don't work and the ones that I have downloaded for free from Telus do? I guess what I mean is, "tell me what you know so far". and who is this guy who you're calling a genius - you didn't post a link to this supposedly wonderful site of his... Thanks much! -Greg Enright |

I have given up on getting custom ringtones on my phone for the time being. However, here are the relevant sites: http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/wafor...threadid=14756 phones.iridani.cx and of course, as i mentioned before, my site adgj.port5.com. If there's anything you (or anyone) wants to attempt with my site, just get in touch with me, i'll be happy to experiment. |

strangly enough, when my server is handling that mime type I get an "unsupported content type" message, without having to pull up the details. if I don't have the the MIME type, it says "406: Not Acceptable" and then I pull up the details where it says "1015: Invalid content type". I wonder what the difference is, any thoughts? |

I'm trying to figure it out myself now on my site @ lapshaw.com/wapbuddy/ I'm pretty new to this stuff but I'll see if I can figure it out. I have a couple of buddies with alot of programming knowledge in regards to PHP/WAP, they might be able to shed some light on the subject. |

Can someone post the Telus WAP Gateway IP's? I'm an idiot and deleted mine out without copying them down first. I'm thinking that if we can setup our own Download Fun server, we can get ringtones/images onto the phone. Still early days yet though.... Hard to believe that before yesterday I knew nothing about WAP/WML, now I'm thinking of setting up a Download Fun server..... This **** is interesting. |

In order to find what I'm looking for, on a Samsung phone, go into the wireless web section of your phone, but don't start the browser. Press and hold the zero key, it will ask for the unlock code, which you would have set already. Enter it in, go into gateway information, then go to the first IP information section. Copy that information down, then hit CLR. Then come here and post it if you could. :-) |

I am not happy with the ringtones that Telusmobility has, nor do I care for the Muchmusic ringtones. Where can I get more ringtones? Have you found a site? I want strong phone sounding ringtones. Chris cpmail@fido.ca Quote:
