Inset is the SPH-i330, a US-style, CDMA2000 1x wireless intelligent terminal (combination mobile phone and PDA. Soaring sales of CDMA and GSM mobile phones with color displays have taken Samsung's global quarterly sales beyond 10 million units. Samsung's CDMA and GSM mobile phone sales in the US is expected to reach more than 9 million units this year. Samsung Electronics is accelerating its drive into the US market for mobile phones. The company began exporting two new models with high-resolution color displays in August, followed by the US debut of a European-style, 2.5-generation GPRS phone with color display in September. Thus, Samsung Electronics is now going after color display models in both the CDMA and GSM market segments. Samsung Electronics is at Comdex Fall 2002, being held in Las Vegas November 18-22, and showing the world why it is the leader of color-screen mobile phones. On display at the Samsung booth is a full lineup of mobile phones with color displays, which are hugely popular in Korea, China, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas. These include the SPH-A500 with high-resolution TFT-LCD and the SPH-N400 with Samsung's new-concept UFB-LCD ("ultra-fine and brightness liquid crystal display"). Other models of note being shown at Comdex are the SGH-S105, a European-style, 2.5-generation GPRS phone with color display and the SGH-V205, a GPRS phone with a built-in 110,000-pixel CCD camera. US sales of Samsung's latest color-screen mobile phones have been rising fast, boosting Samsung's worldwide mobile phone sales to 11.7 million units in the third quarter of this year, up 23% from the 9.5 million units sold during the second quarter. This is also the first time ever for a Korean mobile phone manufacturer to sell more than 10 million units in a single quarter. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is also exhibiting multifunctional wireless terminals at Comdex, including the SPH-i330, a US-style, CDMA2000 1x wireless intelligent terminal (combination mobile phone and PDA) that runs Palm-OS, and the SPH-i700, a wireless intelligent terminal based on Pocket PC 2002. These innovative products prove yet again how sophisticated Samsung's mobile phone technology has become. Samsung Electronics introduced its first mobile phones in the US in 1996. Since then, the company has continued to employ the marketing approach where joint marketing activities have been carried out with service operators to steadily raise Samsung brand recognition and create top-selling products. Samsung Electronics has applied distinctive designs and color display technology to offer US consumers with timely products to satisfy their changing needs. The company has also come out with a succession of compact intelligent terminals representing cutting-edge technology. Samsung Electronics expects to sell more than 9 million CDMA and GSM mobile phones in the US this year. |
