Hey all, I'm new here. I saw in an old post that you can buy a new phone at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. and not activate it there. That way, you can take advantage of the special prices they have on new phones. The original post said to tell them that you are 'buying it as a gift': >Okay it depends on the salesperson you are dealing with. Their ad said that purchase of 3 or more phones require "In-Store" activation. >>>Some people takes this as 2 or less phone, you can take home and activates it. You don't want to tell best buy you are replacing an old >>>phone, just tell them it is for a new account, but you are going to activate it at home (you know make up some reasons like it is a gift or >>something). I just want to upgrade my 8500 to the new A-460. Has anyone had luck with doing this at Best Buy? I would rather not pay full price for a new one. Best Buy currently has $79 off of this phone, so it would definitely be a good deal. |

I had a A460, and would say that it's not a great phone, but probably is the best on out right now that's not Vision...I have a favor to ask you though, if you do indeed get one.

You could just tell them that you are buying to replace the phone you have... that's what i did at the best buy in NY. they didnt charge me full price...but they do as you for ur name and sprint cell number at the register. Btw... the a460 is a piece of s*** , i have this phone ...it might look nice but it garbage, couldnt get reception half of the time. the battery life suck, all it gets really hot after talking for a few minutes. My Startac was way way better that this, unfortunately it died.=( |

I've had my a460 for about two months. Love it! No dropped calls, battery life is so so..., solid build, cool looks, it does get warm after long calls....

I work for best buy as a computer technician. You don't have to active anything in the store. They will just ask you if you are an existing customer or a new customer. Most the time if you select new customer you get a $50-100 rebate from sprint but that's it. The prices on the tags are the prices you pay whether you are new or old customer It will just put on the receipt the phone #'s you need to call to activate and all *shrugs* oh btw i'd get the service plan. they don't service phones, they replace them. so in a year or 2 when a new phone you want comes out bring ur old one in and say it loses calls and the battery won't charge or something. they can't make you sit there for hours while they test it for those problems so they'll just swap it out and give you credit on the new phone (whatever you paid for the first one) i did this 3 times so far swapped my n200 for the 5150 and then the 5150 for the a500. most service plans are sh!t but some of them are awesome if you know how to manipulate them |

Thanks for the info, JpA. The phone is listed in their ad this week as $149.99 (before $50 Sprint mail-in rebate and $75 instant Best Buy Saviings). It's the $75 'instant savings' I'm interested in, making the phone only $75. (I know I can't get the Sprint rebate, as I'm not activating a new phone number). So, the 'instant savings' shouldn't be a problem even if I'm not activating a new number or signing up for a new plan? I can't find anything in their ad that says otherwise. If it does work, that's quite a deal! |

hehe yah! i used to work for best buy. and the thing is, that the sales rep can charge you for the phone with a "New Activation" rate, cuz Best buy doesnt activate your phone for you, so you get the phone and have to take it home to do the activation yourself, its all about trying to get the sales guy to ring it up as a "New Activation" but your rite, you dun qualify for the rebates from service prividers. but hey, its cheaper neways! i got my s105 for $225 and got the $40 2yr service plan! and i recommend the service plan, cuz there are loopholes in the deal. but i dunt think i want to give it out, cuz they mite change it, but thrust me, its worth it
