Free Ringers Now Available for Download to A500

I wonder if my A460 can download and use these... time to be brave.

how do you put them on the a500?

First, you have to get on the internet. Then, you press menu and choose option number 5 for "go to url". Then just type in the whole web site address. You will see a screen of ringers. scroll onto the ringer and press ok. a message will pop up saying something about security, just click ok again. Then it downloads into your ringer file. The first couple (A-D) are a bit off tune and sound tinny, but the rest are alright. Either way, this is a breakthrough to me. This is the first site I seen where you can actually download something into the A500 without having to pay. Hopefully more ringers, games and screensavers will follow shortly behind.

Well, didn't work with my A460.... but I don't have a Go to URL option (used the Go to: link in wireless web).

Is your server a hosted server, or do you run it yourself? Is it apache? I'm trying to set up my web server to do the same thing and everytime I go to download, instead of the security message, I get an error 406: Content not acceptable. Did you see this error at at before getting your stuff to work? Do you think it has to do with the MIME settings? What exactly did you put in for your MIME stuff?

I am using a commercial hosting service, but it is Apache I beleive. I had to add the GCD MIME type to the .htaccess file in my area on the server. Perhaps that will work for you.

Put the following in your .htaccess file.

AddType text/x-pcs-gcd gcd

Thank You guys so much for the links for the images and ringers. So much for Sprint's plan to exploit their customers by double charging (charge for item plus charge for MB) us to download ringers, images, and wallpapers.

Dumb question perhaps, but is there any way that these ringers can be "previewed" by downloading them to your PC first?

Actually you need both a GCD and a MIDI file. The GCD file points to and describes the MIDI file.
