Is it possible to download these ringers to the a460. It's easy to point the phone to a *.gcd file via the "Go to..." function, but the phone appears to not recognize the content type.

I knew it would be only a matter of time before people found a way around the "Vision" monopoly. Congrats to all you with Sprint. I couldn't put up with the problems so I cancelled. Now someone has to figure out how to do it with 2G! Thatd be so cool.

Can someone point me to a short how-to on creating the ringers and wallpaper? I've seen pieces of info on how to do some of it, but nothing with a beginning to end description. I understand how to post the media types on a website (MIME settings), but here are some questions I have: Ringers: Anything special about the MIDI files (ie size)? Can you use WAV files? (I have an 4900) What does the qcd file look like? Do you have to convert the sound files at all? Wallpaper: What are the size restrictions on the images? What is the associated 'description' file called, and what does it look like (like the qcd for ringers)? What's the best format (jpg, png, bmp)? Screen Savers: Is it possible to create these too? How? All the info we could gather would be great. I know I am pulling out my hair trying to piece all of this together. I too want to join the 'revolution' of not having to be forced to pay for download amounts, and the content, when I could create it myself. Thanks! digitalamish |

Heres what I did. I put a link with those links on it and set a book mark on my N400. This way you can type in one short link. And the bookmark it. http://nismo.net.dhis.org/a.html |

Gcd files are little files that describe all the ringer's information. THey are necessary. You are doing it wrong. You have to download the files from YOUR PHONE. Visit the site from your phone and download the ringers. They work that way. |

Actually, Sprint doesn't seem to have a problem with other people making ringers as when I called they told me it was possible, just no one has done it yet. By the way, they work well on my N400.

I went to the MatrixM site referenced above. However, it seems that the screensavers are free, but the ringtones are a small fee, like $1.00. Is this correct? or am I just overlooking the free access? By the way, it happens to be a great site, and I highly recommend it. Text messaging from site is also excellent. |

These sites are great!! This is what I envisioned PCS Vision would be like all along. Maybe this will show Sprint that consumers are tired of being ripped off by them. We pay enough for the phones, plans, Vision, etc. SPCS shouldn't be charging for ringers and screen savers.

Does anyone know how to convert .midi and .jpg files into .gcd files? Nick, Maybe you can tell us how you went about doing it on your site. I'm sure many of us have some web space and could offer some more ringers/screen savers if we knew how to convert them to the proper format. Thanks.

You need to go to a site that allows you to upload images and/or midi files to it and then download them (or send them to) your phone. There's lots out there -- go to Sprintusers.com to get started and use the Vision tool. If you have your own web space you can put your screensavers and ringers there, but your web host has to be configured to use GCD files (text files which describe the content to your phone). There is no other conversion needed, as midi files will download to your phone properly from that (assuming the midi MIME type is also defined on your host). Images need to be JPG or PNG. www.kelleytown.com/kv.html (screensavers and logos on request) |
