Default Samsung A310 battery-how long does it last for you? LGX400 battery life?

I got the Samsung A310 one week ago. I am not happy.....3 major glitches.
1) Battery Life. After one week of frustrattion, I returned to Radio Shack and had battery switched because it will not even last 24 hours on standbye. I make, possibly 2 calls during a 24 hour period that last 2 minutes each, keep the phone on stndbye all other times (pvernight even) and don't use games. I now still have that same problem. I have one bar left and it is not even 18 hours since the last recharge (and only 2 phone calls again lasting under 1 minute each). Radio Shack gave me a hard time getting the battery switched and it was within the 15 day trial period. They asked if I had insurance?!? They told me I should have charged the phone 24 hours (which I have always thought is an overcharge and drains the battery). I heard all types of excuses. Honestly, I think it is just the phone and want to try the LGVX4400. Is this a good move or stay with Samsung and get a whole new A310 and try again? How long is the battery life supposed to be on the A310 Samsung in 'real life' (rather then the listed 120 hr standbye time ). What is the life of the LGVX4400 battery in standbye? I DO NOT NEED A COLOR PHONE BUT I DO NEET GOOD BATTERY LIFE.
2) Phone book on Samung. The phone book does not indicate whether the saved phone number for a person is a cell, home, office etc. when you look through the #'s in the phone book. What do you do when you scrool through and have a cell # for a friend and a office # for that same friend? Do you have to go into the entry an view each # before you call to ensure you are calling the right #? Makes NO sense. My last phone had a symbol indicating the # was mobile, office, home etc. Am I missing something?
3) Caller ID. I have entered about 10 numbers in my phone book and none show up on the small screen outside the phone, only the # shows. I heard that this is because I entered the # in my phone book as 1-212-555-1212 and it should be 212-555-1212. This makes no sense b/c when the phone dials, it will have to be inputed as 1-212-555-1212 to dial correctly, correct?

Frustrated in NYC! PLEASE HELP!

Default Samsung A310 battery-how long does it last for you? LGVX4400 battery life?

Hello, I went through 2 A310s since October and both had all the same problems with freezing, going into analog too often, and just dropping calls left and right even with the newer software. So they let me swap for the LG VX4400 and it has overall been a very good phone. I get WAY better battery life than the Samsung and I talk quite a bit, and the battery life seems to go on and on. The reception on this phone is also way better than the A310 since I can now make calls at places where I frequent and hold that call without dropping or loosing service where with the Samsung I would have to walk outside and walk several feet to make a successful call attempt. Overall I would say get rid of the A310 and go for the VX4400.

CME,

Sorry to hear about the pains with the A310. My wife has it and loves it. Granted, she is not a heavy phone user but her A310 will go 3 -4 days plus between chargings. The phone is listed at 120 hrs digital stdby time or 170 minutes digital usage. If you like the phone, I'd recommend taking it back for a new one. Sounds like dealing with Radio Shack may be the most difficult part of this process. Samsung added the address book feature to the A530. I can't speak to the caller id issue as she has not had that problem (yet?).
If the address book feature means a lot to you, you may want to look at another phone. My Bro loves his VX4400 and I see lots of good reviews here at WA. I took a chance on the A530 and really like it.

Post On.

The 4400 is a good phone. The battery life is really decent! the meter is kind of weird tho has anyone else noticed it? Some bars go fast, some stay long even with the same amount of usage. For instance, when on one bar, I cannot kill it!

I purchased 2-A310's on 6/8/03 from Verizon. On both of them the battery seems to
last 3-4 days. But it does seem that the battery indicator goes from 3 bars to 1 bar
quickly. But the last bar lasts 1-2 days. So maybe it's just learning the new intracacies (sp?)
of a new phone. Overall my wife and I like them............Greg

1) When I got my A310, the instructions were adamant that the battery must be charged for 24 hours before using. Otherwise the battery will not be able to charge to full capacity in subsequent charges. Lithium-ion batteries do not suffer from overcharging like NiCad batteries did. I haven't had problems with my battery life. I'll go 36-48 hours before it drops to three bars.

2) Don't know what to say. I don't find it a problem to select a name, and then the location that I want to call under that name. The only solution would be to set up each phone number as a different phonebook name. Like "John-ofic, John-home, John-cell".

3) Incorrect. You don't need to have the "1" in there. The phone appears to know to dial the "1" when calling an out-of-area-code number. Either that, or Verizon does it automatically. (On the flip side, having the "1" in there doesn't hamper things. It won't dial the "1" twice.)

Yeah.... weird & sorta annoying! First 3 bars dissappear in a day.... the last bar stays for 3 days!! Sorta defeats the purpose of a battery indicator.
