Okay, I am sick and tired of my motorola V60 and want to get a new phone. I just bought the SAMSUNG 530 --- all digital. I only used for 4 days now. It is okay but my reception doesn't seem as clear as my motorola. Maybe because is it a digital cell phone? DO anyone know the different between ANALOG and DIGITAL and advise me to whether I should keep an ALL DIGITAL cell phone or is it better to get a TRIMODE (Analog & Digital) cell phone? If anyone also can, let me know whatcha think of Samsung 530 and also the LG VX440 if you had or have that one. THANKS A BUNCH!!!! |

So are you saying that I am better off with a all digital cell rather than an tri-mode/dual mode phone and why? I am a dummy when it comes to technology and so I need some explanation with the whole analog and digital thingie. AHHHHHH!!!! |

I'd say that going digital alone is the best in regards to call clarity and better web browsing/texting. However, it does depend on where you usually hang out in. If you hang around rural or underground/highly restricted areas a lot, then a trimode phone will be more useful as it has analog, too. If you are usually around big cities, then a digital-only cell will be a good choice. Choosing the right equipment is only one step, though. If you want better coverage nationwide, go with either Sprint or Verizon.

Here let me answer your question in english. If your still in digital then maybe something is wrong with your phone. If you already had verizon in the past, then its possible that your phone is not gettting as clear of a signal as your previous phone. Just llook on how many bars your getting if its 1 bar, then your reception is going to be poor. Being all digiital just means you have no analog signal, but I am sure you didn't use your old phone in analog that often or you would have returned it. Because ih Analog your phone only has 30 minute battery life, and your calls go through like half the time, also receieving calls is rare on analog. Also if you want great nationwide service Verizon has the most towers in the U.S. followed by at&t and then cingular. Sprint is fourth or fifth for U.S. coverage. DreamSiren007 has no idea what he/she is talking about. Sorry to be rude but you didn't even answer lilcamboo's question you just made some sort of blase rant. |

Diverdown... I apologize for sounding biased to you; however, I am trying to answer lilcamboo's question based on the carriers and equipment I've used. Lilcamboo, if you think that my answers to your question/s aren't sufficient, please let me know, and I'll do the best I can to give you an informed, yet unbiased, reply. And Diverdown, I have nothing against Verizon... as far as I know, it has the best nationwide coverage next to Sprint's. However, I noticed that Sprint is expanding as well in my area and for me, their more affordable and convenient Free and Clear plans with Vision helps me out a lot, esp. since I tend to go over 1000 minutes calling friends who are also with Sprint. I also feel that my current plan with this carrier does not at all compromise good coverage in the areas that I'm in. Again, my replies are based on my own experience with my past/current carriers and equipment... and I am not interested in promoting one carrier over another. Each carrier and phone are ideal to the users based on their current lifestyles and needs. I also tried AT&T before Verizon, and their coverage is good, too, depending on where you usually make/receive your calls. So, Diverdown, please do not rudely condone me because I am only interested in helping customers like you and me in the best possible and unbiased way I know how.

No I too am not biased against one carrier or another, but you can't tell someone, regardless of price, that Sprint has some of the largest coverage, when at the most its number 5 (possibly # 4 these days). Price is one thing, but when you and I are just talking about coverage, as in the case of this thread where you mentioned nothing of price, I feel the need to correct you. In fact I have no idea how you got on the issue of bias, considering that I never mentioned one carrier over an other, all I mentioned were facts. I'm sorry if you think I offended you and to be honest I have nothing against you at all on a personal or any other level, but I do dislike when people write about stuff that they have no knowledge (or very little knowledge of). If you don't think you know something then don't pretend you do, your certainly not helping anyone by not telling them the correct thing, or in this case anything, your answer was the most blase thing I have ever read. Sorry. |

Malial, see now your confusing this dude. Everytime someone asks a simple question because they don't know much you guys start giving them all sorts of contraints. Telling this person that one bar might be 2 bars on another phone doesn't do anything to help them. And every phone that is in the 1 bar range gets crappy choppy service and in this gentlemens case, if you call verizon regardless of what phone you have, they always say that you need 2 bars for clear service. So basically I was right in what I told him, and you were right in confusing this person (excuse the him's bad habit). Simple answers people, thats all they want. |

I am overhwhelmed with all the reponses I got back! Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I still have my Samsung 530 and have only a week to return or exchange it. I'll say that Verizon is pretty good as a provider. Now, say, is digital good if I travel to Los Angeles where there's deserts and high altidudes or Miami? I like to travel. I live in the local cities and yes I usually stay in the cities most of the time but I want to make sure that the 530 will be good if I leave NYC. I want to make sure that my phone is worth my money and 2 yrs contract! All you guys gave my great replies so PEACE, LOVE, & HAIR GREASE! Can someone tell me if 530 is better than lg 4400 though? I haven't been to Los Angeles in years (thank god) but I have read reports of people in here that say if towers get ovrloaded they switch to analog. There are also dead spots in mountains and canyons where analog is all you can get. This would render the a530 useless. Whether or not you would actually experience any of this if you were only there for a limited time, I don't know. Do you fly or drive? If you drive, don't get the a530. Analog could be nice in the middle of nowhere if your vehicle breaks down.

I agree with the previous post, that if you travel by car an all-digital-only phone might be a problem. Vevizon clearly states that if there is no digital signal, you will not be able to call 911. Check out their digital map and keep in mind there are many pockets of analog throughout the country that are NOT indicated on the map. I live in Los Angeles where signals do fluctuate, but I can't speak for those living in Ohio (thank god!)

| The presence of VZN service, is now said to be at 96% digital. How many people / places can the remaining 4% (of service area) that would be analog possibly be ? I would think that maybe, 99.9% of the population would be in these areas about .001% of the time.

This is true, but Verizon does not own all of the areas in the AC network. So while Verizon may be just about all digital, not all of their roaming partners are.

I have finally made up my mind! Today I went to my friend's house in Yonkers (surburban of NYC) and I got a call. The reception of the call sound horrible and after a few seconds, my call got cut off! Obviously that digital connection wasn't working so well around my friend's area where was mostly houses and trees. I got ticked off and I said to myself "FORGET DIGITAL --- once all cell turns digital, then I can get one". So I am exchanging my 530 to the LG 4400 for a better reception with both analog and digital and of course, that is always a better deal worth your money! Thanks to everyone for your advise. lilcamboo! |

Yeah, I too have experienced dropped calls in digital..while I was sitting in a chair not moving. The biggest digital coverage does not always mean the best in quality. Anyone else experience dropped calls in digital? lilcamboo, I get freshly baked bialys from "Kossar's" in Manhattan and have them shipped overnight to Los Angeles. It's the best! |

Better than 530? I am getting it tomorrow. |

I use Samsung A310. I hear the LG is a good phone too. I don't need a color screen or get-it-now. I was raised on the Lower East Side and have been eating their bialys for 50 plus years. Oldest bialy bakery in USA. They sell the bialy's to many deli's and markets. Great just toasted w/butter.. better with bacon and tomato. Keep them in the freezer, microwave 30 seconds...toast...yummy. They now make bagels...haven't tried them yet. Enjoy, Jack KOSSAR'S BIALYS 367 Grand St (877) 424-2597 |
