I have been playing for days to try and get this to work.. Seems people are somewhat claiming they are doing it but no one will explain in detail. The latest seems to be using the yamaha Smaf utility which will convert a wav to mmf... Then the thread said to rename to pmd which absolutely does not work.. Tried the file in MMF and pmd , does nothing at all. Actually the pmd causes the hour glass to show up when you select the file ?? Very strange HELP ... I need voice files on my A530... |

I've got it to work everytime using this method (a530): 1) get the wave file you want 2) convert it to 8 Khz, 16 bit mono (use sound recorder it's the easiest) 3) download this file, it's the Qualcomm PureVoice Conversion Utility 4) Use that file to convert the wave to a .qcp file. 5) Copy the .qcp file to the 'user/sound/ringer/' directory on the phone 6) reboot (or if you have modtones you can run the app, go to 'my mod files' and choose 'my tones'. That updates the EFS and you don't have to reboot. .qcp files won't show up in that menu though. Keep reading) The .qcp file will definately be played by the phone if you go to 'menu->7->2->1' and preview/set it that way I have my voicemail alert ringer as the 'you've got mail...yayyyyy' from crank yankers. You set the voicemail sound in the Message Settings (menu->3->8->2) Make sure your file is under ~40 seconds and less than 30Kb or it is going to hang your phone regardless, weather it be a .mid, .qcp, or whatever. The only downfall to the voice ringers is they are pretty quiet (at least the ones i've tried) You can also use this smaf utility from yamaha to convert the file to .mmf. I've only gotten this to work once and I forget what I did. The .qcp files are generally 2-3Kb smaller than the .mmf files so the PureVoice format is probably superior [edit]Actually I just noticed you have an a310. I have an a530. Your phone probably doesn't support Animated Ringers (which is why it probably didn't play the .pmd file) and it might not have the .qcp support either (because the PureVoice codec might not be in your phones hardware). In this case, your SOL on voice ringers. |

twaroc, Could you please e-mail me the AOL "You got Mail" file?? I had it on my T720, but it didn't work on the A530. The method looks kinda complicated for me. Also, do u have the ICQ "oh oh" file?? I use that whenever I get a text message on my old T720, like to have that for my new A530 as well. My e-mail address is Treasureshell@yahoo dot com (spelling out the 'Dot' to prevent getting spammed). THANKS angela |

| http://www.matrixm.com has a myriad of dead, polyphonic, monophonic, etc ringers. Just preview the file and rightclick on the playbar to save it. .mid type files must be: - less than ~45 seconds and under 30Kb - type 0 (most of the ringers on that site are type 1 and you must convert them...use a utility called one2nul) .wav files: follow the steps above. If somone can figure out a way to make the 'dead ringers' louder on the phones that would be cool. I'm assuming you can just up the volume in SoundForge or something before encoding |

I downloaded the PVconv and put the sample qcp file on the phone.. YEs it does talk but the volume is almost non existant... We really need to work on this.. Apparently if you read the yamaha site about smaf and MMF.. They can be made alot louder using some utilites.. The Crank yankers I got mail tune real loud would be very freaking cool.. Let's do it !! |

ya I was reading about that .mmf format but I forgot what I did to make it work. I have to find the thread on one of the forms where it was explained. I've been trying to amplify the wave in soundforge but I'm not really good with that program. You can increase the volume up to a point (before it starts to clip....and you don't want to hear clipped .qcp files it sounds like the speaker is gonna explode hehe). It still isn't loud at all though. I'll let you know what comes up. |

I also have tried increasing the volume of the wav file, on my pc its 500 times louder. On the phone its the same quiet sound as the original volume. I tried converting the file several times with/without amplification, on the phone, its no different. I guess maybe its a problem with the wav to qcp program. maybe something else? Frank |

I used Sound Recorder to increase the volume and saved that. The file saved on the computer is noticably louder. On the phone, it is louder, but so distorted that it isn't worth it.

The problem seems to be that the sound comes out of the earpiece rather than the speaker, no? This is what I experienced when trying a .qcp file. Does anyone have their .qcp's playing through the phone's main speaker?

I tried all the different conversion options in pvconv and nothing really helps. I noticed that it came out of the earpeice and not the speaker also... The T720s can use the .mmf format renamed to .mid and it works very well. I assumed the a530 would have the same functionality but apparently not. |

I am at work and don't have a headset with me, but maybe a use for it could be this... If you have a headset on, say in the car, and the radio is on loud enough where a ringer might blend in with the music...you could have your phone set to ring through the headset and announce an incoming call. Just a thought. I know it doesn't answer the problem, but it could be an answer to something I have wanted...a way for the ringer to ring through the headset. Has anyone tried this? |

What program(s) are you all using to put ringers on the 530? Also, can you do wallpapers as well? Right now, I have the LG VX4400, but am trading it out with my wife, as she's getting the Samsung, but I'd rather have that (at least provided it's worth it). So, if anyone can tell me what they're using (BitPim, Gagin, etc), I'd appreciate it. Thanks. |

I am using GAGIN to get ringers and wallpaper on the phone. I tried using a headset, set the ring as my alert for a text message, sent a message to myself, and sure enough it worked. I was alerted discreetly through the headset and no one else could hear the ring, and no one else could hear the vibration either. The only problem is I went to set it as a personalized ringer for someone, and it doesn't come up in the list. Does anyone else have the problem? I can choose it as my main ringer. I can choose it as an alert. But I can't choose it as a personalized ringer. |

Quite honestly, I've never used Gagin, and I'm a little weary. I've read up on it, and am familiar with it though. Right now I have the LG VX4400 and have been using BitPim flawlessly. So the bottom line, is GAGIN really that 'risky' to use. All I really want is basically to upload my own ringers and wallpapers.

WOW, I finally got it to work, But yes it only comes out of the Earpiece and thats why it is so low... There must be some software hooks for QCP's to only come out of the earpiece.. Does not make sense.. We really need to figure this out. It appears it can not play MMF's like someone had stated before.. The QCP's seem the only voice files that work but not well enough to use.. It could be that the converter software is creating the QCP kind of funny and that is causing it to only come out of the earpiece.. Are there any other QCP creation programs ??? Let's make this work !!! |

I've heard that it is possible to have the "dead ringers" play through the speaker instead of the earpiece using CMX Studio and .pmd files. I've tinkered around with that program and have had some results, but probably need a few settings changed or something in order to get good results. When I used CMX Studio and set it for CMX version 3.0, I get no sound from anywhere, however, when I change the setting to CMX version 2.x, I can hear the beginning of the complete ring, but instead of finishing the entire ring, it loops back to the beginning so I hear about .25 of a second of the ring (phrase). The sound does come through the external speaker, and not through the earpiece, and it is as loud as the other ringers on the phone. Also, it seems that you can either rename the .pmd file to a .mid, or you can use the .pmd file. Either file seems to work, but it still only plays the beginning of the ring. Has anyone else tried this, or does anyone else know what I might be doing wrong? I will be trying different methods on my phone this weekend, and will see if I tweak some settings, maybe I can get this to work. I know there are some people out there that have got this working and I will try to contact them. |

Silly people! Take a few moments and learn some basic Browser technology. So say you click on a link for a WAV file and it plays it? Since WAV isn't streaming....maybe it copies the file to your PC then plays it? One might even think it would copy that file to your temporary internet file cache....... Take a look |

Bottom line guys.. We have sparked alot of interest and 2 weeks later, we still dont have it working.. Wav's from the speaker would be awesome.. Someone call Qualcommand ask them why brew is so screwed up and why QCP's come out wrong ?? This has to be a bug or a feature.. Lets try and get this to work.. |

What exactly is a "dead ringer"? How does this differ from a regular midi ringtone that you put on the phone?

i didn't say to right click on the link. If you 'left click' to play the ring, and then right click on the play bar (so your menu should be from media player, quicktime, whatever) you can choose to save the file. This is the same as copying it from the Temporary Internet Files, but do you really want to look through 1,000's of files? I have been playing with CMX studio and have had no luck also. .pmd files are for animated ringers so while the ringer plays the phone can flash pictures. I know that modtones disabled the animated ringers section because the a530 was having problems with them. This may be a samsung issue rather than the file format. |

I am probably leaving this post in a wrong spot, and I apologize in advance, as I am not quite sure wear to leave it. I went on www.matrixm.com, and found ringtones, and wallpaper that I would like to use on my A530, however I did look and the A530 was not a supported phone, and I was wondering if I saved the pictures I wanted, if it was possible to then upload them through a program such at GAGIN if BitPim? Thanks, and again sorry if this post is in the wrong spot! |

I just put a file on my phone.. but to me, it sounds like it's just playing out of the earpiece and not the actual speaker on the front of the phone.. is this how it's meant to work? I followed all your steps, and it works, it makes sound, but its really quiet, and i know for a fact that its coming from the receiver part of the phone... any fix for this? | |

Hey guys, I got CMX studio, created a ring with the wav from Crank Yankers "I've got mail, yay! I got mail, yay!" I used CMX version 2.x, imported the WAV file, increased the volume, saved as a CMX file, uploaded to my ringer directory using BitPim, restarted the phone. When I went to try out the ringer IT PLAYED THROUGH THE RINGER SPEAKER!!! not through the earpiece, I can hear it fine. One problem, though. The phone will only let me use it as a ringer for phone calls and alarms, not for VM and SMS. So, back to work. Will post detailed instructions after I do it one more time using a different wav. |
