Default Ringtones: What?

Been trying to do some research on the whole ringtone thing for a project. I'm trying to figure out just where on earth they came from. Anyone happen to know? I know they've been around for at least 10-15 years or so, but I was curious if any of you might have more info. than I've been able to find on who came up with them, how they work, etc. Any help would be appreciated. thanks!

I used to remember about me having MP3 ringtones on my Motorola v600. Was like the first in my area to have such thing . I remembered one time I let my uncle borrowed my v600 and then someone called. The phone starts playing 50 Cents' In Da Club.. and everyone like turned their heads at him. Such an innocent fella with a gangsta phone/ringtone (some people asked him how he did that with his cell phone which he couldn't answer, lol!).

Back to the subject.. you can find some information here

Thanks! Can't believe I didn't think to check Wikipedia. I'm not sure if I can cite it as a source for this particular project, but it does provide a good place to start from. Thanks! Merci! Gracias! Danke! And, um, whatever other language you can think to say "thank you" in.

You're very welcome If your project does not permits Wikipedia as one of the references, you can always take a look at its references near the bottom of the page
