I am getting a Nokia CA-53 USB data cable for my new 6126 and I want to d/l a few tones - no more than a dozen (could be more, I can't say at this point). I will not be using AWS' MEdia Net (due to cost - I can't afford it). I have found some tones that I like at Funtonia and either of their plans seem like OK deals to me (I'd probably fo with $1.99 / month). I wanted to see if anybody has had good or bad experiences with Funtonia or can recommend a better alternative, other than file-sharing (due to potential crapware issues). Also, I will be using Nokia's PC Suite software to install the tones. I got PC Suite directly from NokiaUSA.com. Thanks for reading!

Hmm, Ripoff Report lists 21 consumer "ripoff" reports have been filed at their site against Funtonia in this past year. My thanks to the very good people at the Spyware Warrior Forums for the Ripoff Report tip.

Any site that charges you for ringtones is considered a rip off in my book. Find them on the internet, find a way to get them on your phone, via Bluetooth, USB cable, text them to yourself, email them to yourself, whatever, but don't pay a fee, and definitely don't join a site like that or Jamster.

No cost: PhoneZoo.com, Zedge.net and if you can figure out how to get them onto the phone, Sony-Ericsson has a bunch of free ringtones that you can preview.

I just did the Funtonia thing (before I heard about all the horror stories), but for me it works fine. They should offer some sort of trial where you are able to see if it works on your phone or not. My only complaint would be, I think they need to offer the option of submitting your own ringtones to your account, so you can send it to yourself using their system. For me, I'd rather not have lyrics in my ringtone....but for 99% of the library, that's not an option. If I try to send a ringtone via verizon...they convert it to some weird compressed audio file that sounds like crap. I want the .mp3 version. So I guess...the short version of what I'm looking for.... (1) Does anyone know how to text message an .mp3 ringtone to my phone? (2) If I can avoid using Funtonia, that would be great, especially if they're apparently not all that great...never return emails/calls etc. Sounds shady. | |

I have been a subscriber to Funtonia for 2.5 years now, and have downloaded tones of ringtones. The best thing I have found is the ringtones have no activation codes, which means I have been able to transfer them to three of my phone handsets, a definite bonus. The price is $24 a year, another bonus as many phone providers can charge up to 8$ per ringtone, and then if you change handsets you'll have to buy them again, not so with Funtonia. Ben |
