Would you like one of those "800-FastCar" telephonenumbers? Perhaps your phonenumber isn't as boring and hard to remember as you think. You'll find the "Name My Number" generator at http://www.namemynumber.com. (It's free). The generator will try to make sensible names out of your phone number. If you get a really good name for your number, perhaps you could post it as a reply to this thread? - A friend of mine got "babyglue" from his number (I think that was kind of funny... regards misterBeee Last edited by misterBeee; 05-22-2006 at 5:10 PM. Also on a related note by following the link below you will be lead to a list of recommended exchange names issued by Bell Telephone in the 50's. I personally like calling my Mom's number PLaza 2-xxxx. http://ourwebhome.com/TENP/Recommended.html -Jay | |

| http://www.phonespell.org does the same thing. My phone number used to be 750-TUSH... and then there was the time it was 382-5968 (before they removed that from the list of available numbers along with 328-7448 and the like). Now the question is, how many people had party lines? Or exchanges where you didn't have to dial the first three numbers (i.e., my number was 2918 if you called me from in town)? And if you wanted to call another town it was 1+the seven digit number? I grew up as MEadow 4-0215.

I was on a four-party line in Iowa in 1998... when I moved out, the landlord had the lines upgraded to a regular single-party touch-tone line. For about a month we could dial anyone's number in town by calling the last four digits (because it all started with 934), but then the co-op made us start dialling all seven digits. My ring was short-long-short... but I bought a cell phone anyway because my neighbours always listened in on the phone. People still gave their phone number as four numbers, though... so if you called the bank and they needed to call you back, you'd say "My number is 2918." Another one of those common phrases now gone down to dust. "May I have the line, please, this is an emergency."

I have been and always will be, XXX-EVIL. Although, it came up with XXX-DUH5, which I thought was rather amusing, as well... DUH5
