That could be because the Motorola RAZR V3 page and the Motorola MS500 page have the same handset picture. One just doesn't have it's external screen on. Perhaps people are confusing the MS500 and the MS550?

Is MS500 the CDMA designation for the RAZR V3? The press release says, "The Motorola MS500 is expected to be available in Korea during Q3 2005," but the Motorola Korea website shows the RAZR V3, and the MS500 is nowhere to be found. What's the dilly, yo?

Essensially, the RAZR and MS500 have the same external design, only the type under the camera is different (stating that it is Megapixel). The inside shows the difference, with a redesigned keypad. Also the MS500 is slightly thicker.

Well, they said the CDMA RAZR would be thicker than the GSM version. Really, Motorola needs to put me in charge of their handset designations and naming... that would put an end to this confusion right quick.

It's cool that Verizon will get the CDMA Motorola RAZR. I don't know why it will be 2006 to get it. Thank god I have T-Mobile. The word has it that we'll get the RAZR by July. I hope it's true though!

You could get the V3 right now if you really wanted to. Buy a Cingular branded V3 and unlock it or purchase a non-branded, unlocked V3 and there you go. You'd have to acquire the T-Mobile MMS, SMS and WAP settings so they would work but you should be able to use the phone now, if you got one.

And with T-Mobile, you can get your MMS and WAP settings configured automatically on their website . I did that with my E398 (PS there is no configuration required for SMS).

Okay. Isn't an unlocked phone a little pricy? I am skeptical of buying an unlocked V3. With the T-Mobile MMS, SMS AND WAP settings, isn't that the same features I have with the V600?

Could be pricey, I guess. It would depend on where you got it. You can try Import GSM, they've got it for $349.99 which is pretty good without a carrier's contract subsidy. It's only $150 less than Cingular is offering it for right now. Also, I think for the $199.99 price you have to mail-in a rebate. Depends on how you look at it, I guess.

Personally, I prefer to pay more for the handset and not have a contract, but that's just me. Although, I probably wouldn't pay $350 for a phone no matter what it looked like. I was going to buy the v600 straight up from T-Mobile but they discontinued it before I could so I just bought Gideon's.

I just checked out J&R Music World here in NYC. They want the RAZR V3 for $269.99 with possible activation fee. But I think it's only for the silver not the black.

------------------------------------------------------------------------Fans of CDMA will get to be excited for awhile... until they learn about the next RAZR for GSM later this year.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you hinting that Motorola will come out with a RAZR that's both GSM and CDMA? I have Sprint but really want a RAZR. Should I wait?

Thanks,
Melissa

Welcome to WA! At least as of the last time I checked, there is no 'hybrid' RAZR in the works. I think that given the chips and radios required to make a CDMA/GSM phone (like the Moto A840) work, the form factor for the RAZR is out of the question.

The information you quoted references the fact that the second-generation RAZR for GSM will be coming later this year. The reason CDMA users will be 'disappointed' is because the CDMA RAZR is based on the first-generation GSM unit.

Okay -- thanks for the clarification (and the welcome!). Maybe I'll wait for a while.

The Razr is already huge, making it thicker will only make it worse. The new Samsung is much thinner than the GSM Razr, although it's just as long and wide.

Samsung’s answer to the RAZR is loose. The SCH-V740 is a 14.5mm super thin cellie. Not much else coming through on it, just some basics: .3 mega-pixel camera, Bluetooth, web browser, and MP3 player.

I don't find the SCH-V740 as attractive a handset as the Motorola V3 and as thin as it is, the Sanyo SCP-6000 was only 10mm thick. It's updates, the 6200 and 6400 were only 12mm thick, so 14.5mm thick is still not as thin as some handsets I have seen. I don't get the point of ultra-thin handsets, anyway. The v600 is the perfect size for me and has everything (except EDGE and a megapixel camera) that I want... who cares if it's a whopping 23mm thick?

That Samsung phone is hot! Now who is going to carry that model. That is a nice model after the RAZR!
