Okay, I have an...odd situation with my Razr v3m. Some ringtones won't work when I transfer them to my phone. They play fine in the music list, yet if set as a ringtone, they won't play. Instead I get this "phantom" ringtone that plays. It's exactly what it is, a phantom. None of the tones in my list sound like it, there is no entry for it, and if I try to set it as a ringtone through the contact editor, it doesn't show up there either. Anyone know exactly what this is and why my ringones play fine in the menu yet not as ringtones, but isntead as this phantom? Thank you for your help. |

CDMA carriers don't like you to be able to put your own ringtones on the phone. They'd rather have you buy the ringtones from them, so usually you can't upload a ringtone straight to a CDMA phone. Its more profitable for them that way. Let me guess, your carrier is either Verizon or Sprint, right? There is a way to do it, but it involves hacking the phone's operating system. I'm not sure about the details of what needs to be done though as I own GSM phones, not CDMA. -Jay |

Yah, it is indeed Verizon, and I've already done a few hacks to it. It's just certain tones and sometimes even .qcp sound files will not play but instead play that phantom sound. Perhaps I should try to record it and upload to see if anyone recognizes it?

That's happened to me too. I just shorten the clip or encode it with a lower quality and it works fine.

The hack Jay mentioned actually goes beyond "hacking" the OS...The thing to do with Verizon is actually flashing Alltel firmware onto it, that is to say, writing a *new* OS over it. While that would solve your problem, there is a present, though not high, chance of bricking your mobile in the process.
